NORMAN RAYMOND LALCHUN August 27, 1932 - December 20, 2015 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Norman Raymond Lalchun on December 20, 2015 at the Health Sciences Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Janet; his son Dean (Brenda); his daughter Dayna and son-in-law Lou Savard; his grandchildren Tyler and Troy Lalchun, Reese and Keaton Savard, and many nieces and nephews. Norm was predeceased by his parents Tony and Mary Lalchun, his brother Danny in childhood, his brother Bill in 2015, and his daughter-in-law Cindy in 2010. Norm was born, and spent his entire 83 years, in Gonor. Norm started his working life at an early age at the St. Andrews Lock and Dam as a labourer. He worked his way up the ranks and became superintendent of Marine Facilities managing both the St. Andrews Lock and Dam and the Selkirk Dry Dock. He held this position until he retired. Over the course of his life, Norm was a member, and a committee member, of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gonor. He served on the district planning board, the hospital committee, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Norm loved to travel and accompanied Janet on trips to Switzerland, the Caribbean, Germany, Hawaii, Monaco, Hong Kong, South America, cruises, Paris, London, Nashville, Las Vegas, and many casino trips. A memorial service to commemorate his life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
