COLLIN HENDRY On December 24, 2015 we lost our youngest son/brother Collin Wynn Hendry in a horrific head-on collision as he was on his way to work. Collin was born on December 27, 1961 in Selkirk, Manitoba, the youngest of nine children to Bill and Emily Hendry. Collin was predeceased by father Bill Hendry, sister Susanne Cooke, brothers Billy and Mark. He is survived by his precious, loving mother Emily Hendry; sisters Sharon Schreyer (Lloyd) and Nena Sinclair; brothers Gordon (Donna), Ian (Wendy), and Kerry (Mary); nieces Tannis Tataryn (Gio), Kelly Gislason (Joe), Ashley Moore (Adam) and Charna Humeny; nephews Craig Tataryn, Ryan Hendry (Kaija), Trevor Hendry, Joe Sinclair and Tyson Sinclair; and great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved so much, Lilja and Mitchell Tataryn, Logan and Emma Humeny and Magnus and Kristjan Gislason, with special mention of Collin's best friend Dwight Begg. Collin worked for over 30 years at the Gerdau MRM Steel Mill in Selkirk. Following retirement, Collin drove taxi in St. Andrews, shuttle for Halcon Railway Crew Transportation, and most recently, shuttle for Northway Aviation, out of St. Andrews Airport. Collin was a unique individual, he lived life on the edge - participating in deep sea diving, sky diving, hunting and fishing - always looking for the next adventure. He loved to travel and did so to Egypt, Europe, the Caribbean and Japan and had planned a trip to Cuba for January. Collin had the biggest heart - always taking the burden off anyone in need! He was a lover of music - said it soothed his soul (anything but country)! Collin was sincere, loyal, kind and dependable. He adored our mother and was so devoted to her! Collin, in earlier years, joined the "Toastmasters Club" and in spite of being a little shy at the beginning, nevertheless, was successful to the extent that he won a Toastmasters competition. Collin was devoted to and very proud of war veterans. His father Bill was a Second World War vet. Collin donated blood and stem cells. He donated blood over 100-times, for which he was given an award by Canadian Blood Services. Collin also was invited by CBS to a recognition dinner, in honour of his record blood donations, however, turned down the dinner invite, stating simply, that for him, the honour was to donate. Collin had the greatest sense of humour - and - even entered "Canada's got Talent" contest. He didn't win but said meeting Martin Short in person made him a winner! He could do impersonations which kept everyone in stitches! Collin was loved by all who knew him - most say he had a heart of gold and great sense of humour! As a family - our lives will have the biggest void - we will miss him deeply! There will be a private service for immediate family, followed by a "Celebration of Life" for family and friends on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Smitty's Banquet Room - 168 Main St., Selkirk. There will be an open mic to share memories, lunch, cash bar and slide presentation. Those who wish to pay condolences to our mother may do so by visiting her at Selkirk General Hospital - please do! In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation or blood donation may be made in Collin's name to Canadian Blood Services. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Collin was a friend of ours since meeting in 1993 through Lord Selkirk Toastmasters. He did a trip to Peguis Reserve with our then Area Governor Ursula Dolinski and from that he developed his Competition Winning speech "Where is Fisher River". He helped us in 1998 put insulation in our new home when we were running behind on completion. He stayed in touch always dropping in for a beer, and two years ago went on a fishing trip with Al. He drove the truck with Al on hog deliveries across Canada/US on his days off from the Mill. We celebrated his retirement just a few years ago and encouraged him to enjoy retirement life to the fullest. We will miss his humour and wit and friendship. We know what it is like to lose a beloved to a tragic collision as we lost Al's oldest son, Kurt in 2004 under similar circumstances. Our condolences to his family on this tragic loss. We will be making a donation to the Little Britain Community Foundation in Collin's memory. May your treasured memories of Collin bring you some comfort at this tragic time. They do ease the pain of a loss, but we never forget. - Posted by: Al and Thea Ostermann (Friends) on: Dec 31, 2015
