BRUCE WAYNE RICHARDS In deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Bruce. He left us peacefully, in his home, the morning of December 24, 2015. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Millie, and sister, Brenda (Terry) Millar. Bruce will also be sadly missed by his dear niece, Kim (Mario) Pereira, nephew, Trevor (Amber Dykes) Millar, great-niece, Isabella, and great-nephews, Aiden and Hunter. Bruce will be fondly remembered, also by his aunt Ada Byman, all his cousins, and many friends and associates. Bruce was born and raised in Norwood, St. Boniface where he received his education until he graduated from grade 12 at Nelson MacIntyre Collegiate. He then attended the University of Manitoba where he studied Landscape and Environmental Design, resulting in a lifelong career with the City of Winnipeg where he rose to the position of Manager of Planning and Resources - which oversaw all of the City's major parks. In keeping with Bruce's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Phillip's Anglican Church, 240 Tache St. on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bruce's name to Winnipeg Pet Rescue, Quagga, or Darcy's Arc. • At peace at last - will miss you - Dianne - Posted by: dianne balaban (friend/wife) on: Jan 16, 2016

  • Very sorry to hear of Bruce's passing and my thoughts and condolences are with you as his family. Bruce is responsible for my having a 25 year career in the field of landscape architecture having taken a chance and hired me in the earlier '90s. His passion for design, parks, people and how they worked in an urban setting established a high bench mark. His reports were thesis like in the scope and comprehension, and in a positive manner he pushed design and project boundaries - "can we do more and do it better". From a personal perspective he was very supportive and encouraging on taking those professional "risks". He was unique and contributed greatly to the parks and places that Winnipeger's enjoy today. My condolences. - Posted by: John Kiernan (Co-worker) on: Jan 14, 2016

  • I would like to send my most sincere condolences to Bruce's Mom and family for the enormous loss they have suffered. I had the privilege of working with Bruce more closely than anyone else during his entire career with the City of Winnipeg. He was an exceptionally talented designer, an exemplary and fair superior to his staff and, yes, his middle name was reports, as he was a master in creating them on a daily basis. Bruce was well known in the landscape architectural community, as he fairly assigned department design projects to these private firms over many years. I also had the opportunity to visit his gorgeous home in Charleswood several times, where he kept a beautiful yard, including a large goldfish pond. One room in the house was designated to accommodate his amazing and rare collection of fine liquors from all over the world. Bruce was also a fierce defender of the Monarchy and even in later years his friends were often reminded of it through his e-mails. Thanks for the memories, Bruce. - Posted by: Gunter A. • So very sad to learn of Bruce's death. 12-19 in the Class of 65 was a very special group of people and Bruce's life confirms the expectations held for us. Louise (Mourant) Townsend - Posted by: Louise Townsend (Class of 65 Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, 12-19) on: Jan 09, 2016

  • If I could have picked my neighbours, Bruce is just what I would have chosen. His property may have mine seem dowdy in comparison, but he was always friendly and co-operative with neighbours, and seemed well-liked by all. We'll miss him on Dayton Drive. So sorry to hear of his sudden departure, especially realizing it was right at Christmas. - Posted by: Roberta Beach (neighbour) on: Jan 09, 2016

  • I am so sorry to learn of Bruce's passing. He was a great guy who was driven by his passion to design and build parks and open spaces. He loved his work and was responsible for many city parks, especially Harbour View Complex. He was a masterful writer and loved to make reports on pending projects. Sometimes I had tell him, "Bruce, can you cut it back a little". He will be missed, thanks Bruce! - Posted by: Jim Swail (Co-worker and friend) on: Jan 09, 2016
