Only today, Sunday, January 10, 2016, did I look through the Winnipeg Free Press, and I read the news of Elaine's passing. I missed Elaine's Memorial Service. I was lucky enough to know Elaine, when she lived at Actionmarguerite (Centre Tache). In the announcement, Elaine is accurately described as a lover of reading books. Oh yes! I may be wrong, but I think that books may be near the top of any list of Elaine's "most-prized possessions", second to her children. Elaine recommended only a few "good reads" to me; careful recommendations. I have Elaine to thank, for giving me several gifts: the name of a book she recommended to me which is my #1 book, and, the gift of knowing Elaine. Elaine... oh, she was smart. I only found out from the announcement that she had status as a Mensa member, but, it all makes sense! Elaine had the intellect to converse very well!...knowing the appropriate lengths of conversations, keen and humorous and "spot on" comments about any subjects, a bit of sauciness thrown in, and, knowledge of life, people, and the human experience. I am grateful to have known Elaine, truly. When I think of her (and often I do!!!), the feeling that I have is one of respect and a bit of laughter at her "essence". Elaine is special; again, I am thankful that I knew Elaine, but, I know there was so much more to her than I knew! -- A.C. - Posted by: A. Cook (friend) on: Jan 10, 2016
