MAURICE C. CROCKER It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Maurice C. Crocker on January 10, 2016. Maurice was predeceased by his wife of 58 years in January 2014. Maurice is survived by his three daughters, their husbands and three grandchildren. Maurice was born in New Malden, Surrey and completed his medical training at the University of Liverpool and his post-graduate training at Hammersmith Hospital in London. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force Medical Corps and was stationed and practiced as an anaesthetist in Easter Island, Christmas Island and Cyprus before returning to England. He returned to Hammersmith Hospital, followed by positions with the Common Cold Research Laboratory in Salisbury and later, Leicster Hospital. While working in England, he accepted periodic locum positions which enabled him to practice in various cities in Sweden. In 1970, he and his family relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He worked at St. Boniface Hospital, was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, University of Manitoba and was Chief of Anaesthesia, Victoria General Hospital until his retirement in 1998. After retiring, he and our mother spent many years enjoying themselves. They shared a passion for new experiences including travelling the globe but were equally content to sit on the deck at the cottage and read a good book! Maurice's family would like to thank the staff in the Intensive Care Unit, Victoria General Hospital, for their kindness and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations to either hospital or the charity of your choice would be wonderful. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I've never met Dr. Crocker but I must say this. Mr. ffrench is the best teacher that I've ever had because he automatically modified my program when I was enrolled in his science class. Like the late Dr. Crocker, Mr. ffrench took every situation (internal and external, huge and tiny) and cohort (visible minority, living situation, etc.) that hinders a pupil's learning into serious consideration when he taught at Grant Park High School from 1969-2004 so that he didn't have to worry about whether the student would pass or fail, just like I took the COVID-19 vaccine! - Posted by: Philip (Former student at Grant Park High School) on: Sep 29, 2021

  • I had worked with Dr. Crocker, as an anaesthetist at Victoria General Hospital, and myself as an OR Nurse. I had great respect for him, not only for a Dr. but as an individual. We had a wonderful working relationship and I loved his sense of humor! My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Diane Eastwood Rice (Co-Worker) on: Jan 17, 2016

  • I send heartfelt sympathy to Sylvia and Maurice's daughters and their families. How difficult it must be to lose both of your parents within such a short time. They were very fine and talented individuals and are dearly missed, I'm sure. Be comforted by wonderful memories and the fact that Sylvia and Maurice are now reunited. Most sincerely, Deanne McDonald - Posted by: Deanne McDonald (former colleague of Sylvia's at St. Mary's Academy) on: Jan 16, 2016

  • I remember your Dad very well. He always came on "parents evenings" to see how his girls were doing. A very caring Dad. He was also the anaethesist at our youngest son's birth. My sympathy, Michael Ffrench. - Posted by: Michael Ffrench (Taught his girls at Grant Park High School) on: Jan 13, 2016
