Doreen was predeceased by her parents, husband Henry; brother Vic; and sister-in-law Marg. She is survived by her brother Harry (Pearl); brothers-in-law, Peter (Lou) and Jake (Erna); sister-in-law Betty (Paul); nieces and nephews and several cousins. Doreen was born in Gladstone and lived in the Golden Stream and Palestine areas until the age of seven when the family moved to the Russell and Foxwarren area. In 1943 the family moved back to the Gladstone area where Doreen completed her grade 12. Choosing a career as a teacher Doreen taught in small western towns for 10 years before moving to Winnipeg, teaching another 10 years in the same school as her husband Henry. Upon retiring from teaching, she chose to work in the office of the Liberal Party, as one of Sharon Carstairs' secretaries, which she found to be an enjoyable experience. During her time there Doreen made some long lasting friendships. For the last 20 years Doreen has lived in Gladstone. She enjoyed baking, walking, volunteering at TCM, reading, being involved with the Gladstone History Book Committee, doing puzzles and was involved in the Gladstone United Church choir singing soprano for 12 years. Her latest passion was knitting socks, lots of socks, which have made their way across the country. Thank you to Nurse Practitioner Christie Riley, nurses and staff at Seven Regions for their care. If people wish to honour Doreen's memory, donations may be made to Gladstone United Church, Box 82, Gladstone, MB, R0J 0T0.
