KEN (GEORGE KENNETH MICHAEL) HOCALUK On January 31, 2016, Ken Hocaluk, aged 69 years old, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer. He will always be loved and remembered by his only child Kristen Helen Irene Cress and her husband Jason, his granddaughter Kadence - the apple of his eye - as well as Patty, his good friend and Krissy's mother, and his special canine friend Bruce. He is survived by his brother Edward Hocaluk (Connie) and his family, his in-laws the Viznaugh family, neighbours George and Tracey Gergulich, work partner Maria, and anyone who has ever had the pleasure of having a real relationship with the real "Huckster". Ken was predeceased by his parents Mike (1992) and Helen Hocaluk (1977), fiancée Sandra (1974), girlfriend Sue Laudy (2008), ex-brothers-in-law Len Anderson (1996) and Rick Johnston (2015), and dogs Taylor (2003) and Rusty (2013). Ken was born on September 26, 1946 in Selkirk, MB. He grew up in Libau, MB and his childhood home was in the Libau hotel, owned by his parents. A childhood nickname was Hawk-Eye'. As a young man, he worked for his parents in the hotel and as a car salesman. After getting married and moving to Winnipeg in 1978, he worked at Grace Construction, Wilson Auto Electric and then at First Student Canada in his later years. He enjoyed watching curling, hockey, football, baseball and WWE. He curled and played baseball for many years. He loved to go fishing and devoted his last few years to his dog and granddaughter. Ken was a quiet, honest and hardworking man who loved and provided many opportunities to his family. He was a good man and a true friend with good values. The family would like to thank the ER staff, the nurses/aides on the GH-6 ward and Noelle from the chapel at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion, Jocie for being our rock, neighbour Michelle and new friends Kevin and Lisa Campbell for their help in time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Ken and Bruce's name. A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. with dessert and beverages to follow at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg, MB. We were graced with Ken's presence in our lives through Ken's girlfriend Sue, who for 40 years was also my best bud. We all enjoyed each others company, whether playing cards, dining out, curling, or visiting the casinos. Ken had remarkable self-control and seldom lost more than $20, unlike the rest of us! One summer Ken and Sue drove to Thunder Bay, where we explored N.W.Ontario's nature attractions. Ken's boyish smile literally beamed from each picture... he looked so happy. We fondly remember a very gentle man, who possessed infinite patience, and a very matter-of-fact attitude. We are very sad to hear of his passing, and extend our deepest condolences... he will be missed. May his spirit find peace in our hearts. - Posted by: Marilyn Lylyk and Eric Maier (Good friends) on: Feb 03, 2016

I first met Ken when we both worked in the office at the Gull Lake sand & gravel operation owned by Winnipeg Supply & Fuel. That was about 1965/66 and I knew Ken to be a kind and gentle man, considerate and a bit on the shy side, and a good guy and a good employee. No doubt the Lord has already welcomed him home. - Posted by: Murray Keith (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2016
