EILEEN JOHNSON January 1, 1925 - January 30, 2016 Mom (Gramma J), (GG) passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Mom was preceded by her husband Tommy (1972), her son-in-law Russ Morley (2003), grandson Keith Morley (2006), her parents Percy and Maye Young, and parents-in-law Harry and Edith Johnson. Other relatives preceding her are her siblings: half-brother Arthur (Vera) Ashby, Marie (Bruce) Johnson, Cal Young, and brother-in-law Charlie (Gladys) Johnson. Left to mourn her death are her children Joy and Errol Kring of Pennsylvania, Edie Shields of Winnipeg, Della Morley and Fred Duna of Winnipeg, and Brent and Donna Johnson of Dryden. Missing her are her grandchildren Denise and Andrew Bendor-Samuel, Shannon Morley, Tommy and Amie Johnson, Tracy and Cory Oleschuk; also her great-grandchildren Cooper and Croft Bendor, Samuel, Keith and Willow McCaffrey, Kyler Johnson and Luke Oleschuk; sister-in-law Irene Young, and many nieces and nephews. She had many close friends that have passed. Mom grew up on the family farm in Willen, Manitoba. Mom and Dad married in 1945 and farmed the Harry Johnson homestead farm in Elkhorn, Manitoba until Dad's health would not allow him to stay on the farm. When Dad passed away Mom moved to Winnipeg. She worked as a switchboard operator and receptionist at Victoria General Hospital before her retirement. Mom enjoyed caring for her friends and family members. We all have afghans made with love. Every big family meal was accompanied by GG buns and pies whether the meal was here or in Dryden. Tommy from Dryden didn't get lemon pie often because "they didn't travel well". Memorial service will be held at Central Church of Christ, 170 St. Mary's Road, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016. Interment will be held in Elkhorn, Manitoba at a later date. In Eileen Johnson's memory donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or to CancerCare Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • When I saw Eileen's obituary, I began to reminisce about the short time we worked together many years ago at the VGH. She was someone who took the time to listen to other people and, as well as being very thoughtful, kind and generous, she was fun to be with. My sympathy to her family. - Posted by: Marnie Hughes (co-worker at Victoria Hospital) on: Feb 04, 2016

  • Dear Joy, Edie, Della, Brent and families, My most sincere sympathy to all of you. Eileen was a treasure to so many; you were so fortunate to have her as your own. She was personable, so very pleasant, loving, caring and oh, so funny. She had the best sense of humour. I have so many wonderful memories with her. You will miss her - she loved you and your families so much and spoke of you all so often. Sending prayers of comfort for you all. - Posted by: LaWanda Jacobs Schneider (friend) on: Feb 04, 2016

  • I am a former member of the church where she attended, and I am now living in the US. I would see her from time to time on visits home, and always enjoyed talking with her. She was a very sweet lady, and I know she will be missed by many. So very sorry for those left to grieve her passing. - Posted by: Joy Daly (friend) on: Feb 04, 2016
