MARY CHYMY Sadly, we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom and Baba, Mary Chymy on February 3, 2016 at the age of 85. Mom was born on December 19, 1930 and will be extremely missed by her son Allan Chymy and daughter Diane (Bill) Hlady; grandchildren Kevin Hlady (Charlene) and Nancy Hlady (Eric); sister Stella Swereda; sisters-in-law and many nieces; nephews; her cat Rusty and special friend Diane Johnston. She was predeceased by her husband Mike (1987); parents; sisters Annie, Nellie, Kay, Jean and Pearl; brothers John, Bill and Harry. Mom grew up in Poplarfield, MB and moved to Selkirk in 1959. She worked at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre from 1961 until her retirement in 1987. Mom was very proud and passionate about her grandchildren in Ukrainian dancing and a great supporter of Troyanda. She attended every dance recital, many of their dance functions and never missed Troyanda's Friday night bingo. Mom also enjoyed being outside tending to her many beautiful flowers and gardening. We will miss her delicious perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht and dills. Mom went on many great trips, some included Portugal and an Alaskan Cruise with late Vivian Hlady. In later years, mom began to slow down but continued to be independent until a bad fall in November 2014 left her in a wheelchair and in the Selkirk Betel Home on January 23, 2015. She appreciated her visitors and treasured the relationships that she had with family, friends and staff at the Betel. Thanks to everyone who called or came to visit and to all the Betel Home Staff for your support. Prayers will be said on Sunday, February 28, in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB at 7:00 p.m. with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Divine Liturgy will be held on Monday, February 29, in the Holy Eucharist Church, 501 Sophia Street, Selkirk, MB at 11:00 a.m., luncheon at the Parish hall; followed with Interment at the Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her Godchildren Joan Woloshyn and Randy Dziadek, also Danny Chymy, Cody Johnston, Ernie Hlady and Russell Kossack. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation can be made to Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Inc. (Costume fund) Box 20006, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2B2. We will miss you so much Mom/Baba, but we take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with Dad/GeeGee and all those that have gone before you.
