Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE BURGESS (née HEATON) November 16, 1925 - February 4, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Burgess on February 4, 2016, at Misericordia Place, in Winnipeg. Olive was predeceased by her parents, John (Jack) and Dorothy (Dolly). She is survived by her daughter JoAnne (Alan); son Terry (Carol); and sister Joan Scow. Olive was born in Preston, Lancashire, England and immigrated to Canada in 1929. She was raised in Hamilton, Ontario and Winnipeg, although she lived most of her life in Winnipeg. She married James Fuller Burgess on September 18, 1948. Olive was a long-time employee at Winnipeg School Division No. 1, where she particularly enjoyed her work as a library clerk at River Heights and Kelvin Schools. Olive was proudly independent and courageous. After her retirement, she embarked upon her own journey of self-discovery. She took great pleasure in being a lifetime member of The Reh-Fit Centre and enjoyed the many friendships she developed there. Always one to surprise us, Olive got a tattoo of a butterfly on her upper arm at the age of 80, which she was delighted to show to family and friends. She spent many happy hours researching and documenting her family history and connecting with her relatives in England. She cared for all her loved ones, yet made all of us stand on our own two feet. Olive will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Misericordia Place for providing Olive's care and support during her long journey with dementia. In accordance with Olive's wishes, cremation has taken place. Notice of a Celebration of Life service will follow. My condolences to the family for losing both father and mother (grandpa and grandmother). Mrs. Burgess was the librarian at my school at River Heights during the years 1980 - 1983 (grade 7-9). She helped me find many books and I enjoyed seeing Her at the library as she always was pleasant, friendly and greeted me kindly. I never knew her daughter but I heard as I got older that her daughter was at one time married my mum's cousin. It was nice to have a family connection with the Burgess’s. Sorry for your loss. Olie was my friend and family member. Her words of wisedom influence my life to this day. There are two in particular which resonate "You take yourself no matter where you go,". Its so true and that realization helps us through times of challenge " Know the difference between your problems and those of another person". This is a great perspective Olie was lively, intelligent, curious, and strong Her illness took her mind from us early. She is forever living in my own mind and actions My compassion to both JoAnne and Terry and spouses. - Posted by: Rick. Anderson (Friend ++) on: Feb 08, 2016
