LOUISE MARGARET SIMPKINS (nee JOHNSTONE) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Louise Margaret Simpkins passed away on February 7, 2016 at the age of 92. Left to cherish her memory are sons Reid (Wilma), and Glen (Judy); brother Victor (Lillian); grandchildren Ryan, Ashley (Denny), Thomas, Krista (Ty), and Heather (Karl); great-grandchildren Logan, and Quinn; nephews Gary (Dorothy), Craig (Jean D'Arc), Brent (Janet), Wayne, Jerry (Jan), Greg (Lezlie), and Jim (Gail); sister-in-law Patti, and their families whom she cared for beyond measure. She was predeceased by her husband Clayton, parents Jack and Gertrude Johnstone, brothers Astor and Russell, and granddaughter Leanne Simpkins. Louise will be remembered for being a very independent, young at heart, fun loving person. Always friendly, her cheery hello came with a smile highlighted by those beautiful blue eyes. Anyone who met her immediately found a true friend. Always positive and wanting the best for each of us; Mom (Nana) made the world a better place in so many ways. Emerson wrote "The only way to have a friend is to be one". Mom lived that way; and all of you; her friends meant so much to her and our family. Thank you for the gift of friendship. She was loved by all that knew her. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to thank all the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital and in particular the excellent caregivers on the 5th floor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • I loved Grandma Simpkins for the wonderful lady she was. No matter our age difference we always had fun over a glass of wine and good music. Those piercing blue eyes and kindness always made me feel so happy and comfortable. I will truly miss you Grandma but know that you had an amazing life and I strive to do the same. Cheers Grandma Simpkins. Loe you always, Heather Beaudry - Posted by: Heather Beaudry (Grandaughter) on: Feb 17, 2016

  • I tried sending my condolences before, but it didn't go. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Glen, Judy, Ryan and Reid on the passing of their Mother/grandmother. Louise was a wonderful, caring and kind person and will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. My father, Bill Atkinson, was a great friend and is so very saddened not to be able to attend her memorial service. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Coralie and Hal (Friends) on: Feb 12, 2016

  • We were very sad to hear about the passing of your mom, Glen. I hope you take comfort in remembering how good you were to her and that she left this world knowing what a wonderful son she had. This will be your greatest inheritance. Thinking of you all. ---Safe journey Mrs. Simpkins--- - Posted by: Debbie (Reid) and Randy Grandpre (Friend) on: Feb 11, 2016

  • I will always remember spending Christmas Eve at her apt worth the rest of the family, watching for Santa above my house. Playing with my sweet cousins Ryan & Leanne. I will never forget her perfume, her smile, her smile or her icy Nordic eyes. I will miss you dearly. I love you - Posted by: Cheryl Johnstone (Great Niece) on: Feb 11, 2016

  • So very sorry to hear about Aunt Louise. When I was young the Simpkins and the Campbell famiilies did many fun things together. I grew up with Glen and Reid and spent our summers at Winnipeg Beach. They were such wonderful childhood memories. My very deepest condolences to Glen, Reid and their families. - Posted by: Heather Polonuk (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2016

  • It was of immense sadness that I learned of Louise's passing. I was very fortunate to get to know Louise really well over the past few years joining my Aunt Kay and her on their fun-filled shopping and lunch dates. I loved to sit back and listen to the stories of their shared life and special friendship that spanned some 75 years. Their friendship and spirit for life is so inspiring. Louise also often talked to me about her family and we shared news of the current activities of her great-grandchildren and my grandchildren. She thought it was great that we both have a "Logan"! I am heartbroken that I will not be able to attend the memorial service to celebrate Louise's amazing life as I am out of the country. However, I will be thinking of Louise, your family and her wonderful friendship with Aunt Kay, and will always remember the memories of the special times spent with them. - Posted by: Marcie Ewatski (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2016

  • I will always SO VERY FONDLY remember our Saturday mornings with my mom, AG and Mrs. Squeeze journeying to the casinos and having such a BLAST!! Mrs. Squeeze was always so kind to my mom and AG; watching the three of them all those years brought me so much joy! If I chose one word to describe Mrs. Squeeze it would be that she was a LADY; always beautiful, impeccably dressed and so caring and friendly to all. She and Clay left a terrific legacy in Reid, Squeeze and all of the grand and great grand children to continue spreading the Simpkins love and genuine care for all of us. You're the best Mrs. Squeeze!! - Posted by: Larry Reid (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2016
