Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEWHENIJA HASAJ (nee SOROTA) Peacefully on February 7, 2016, with her son Alex at her side, Ewhenija passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home. She was born February 29, 1920 in the village of Lysychyntsi near Ternopil, Ukraine. During the Second World War she was taken captive to work in Germany. Following the war, she moved to England where she married Roman and they immigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in Winnipeg. Left to cherish Ewhenija's memory are her son Alex (Angie); granddaughters, Renata (Daniel) and Hilary. She was predeceased by her husband, Roman; her parents Petro Sorota and Maria (Pyrih); sisters Tekla, Katarina, Hanka, Paulina and brother Stefan. Her primary role was to care for her home and family. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, and embroidery. She was a member of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral and Women's League. Special thanks to Drs. Andrea and Terry Babick for their care. We would like to thank the Sister Servants and entire staff from St. Joseph's 4A Ward for their compassionate care at Holy Family Nursing Home. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
