ROBERT DUNCAN MACLEAN Robert Duncan MacLean (our Robbie) passed peacefully, after a brief but recurring struggle with pneumonia, on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. He was born January 2, 1957 in the Pine Falls Hospital, the first of three children in his family. He was predeceased by his father Don (in 2000) and his mother Jean (in 2007) and is survived by his brothers Glen (wife Rhea Prairie, stepdaughters Lynn (James), Melanie and Sylvie (Greg) and step-grandchildren Jaxon and Anna); and Roy (Lynda) and his nieces Lauren (Chris) and Amy-Jean. Robert lived with his parents Don and Jean in Eastern Manitoba for his first 30 years. The first three years were spent on the farm at Crescent Bay near Lac du Bonnet and the next 27 years in and around Beausejour (including Molson and St. Ouens). He lived briefly in a group home in Beausejour run by the Association for Community Living before moving in 1987 to the St. Amant Centre in the St. Vital area of Winnipeg. He was a resident of St. Amant from that point until his passing on Wednesday. Our Robert lived with epilepsy and developmental challenges his entire life, but always maintained a pleasant disposition and was generally a joy to be around. He had very few words but managed to communicate his wishes effectively. He loved a few simple things, including his family, trains, tools, watches, cell phones and especially Cheezies, always Cheezies. Robert's earthly body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Amant Centre chapel, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, adjacent the 1 West ward that has been Robert's home these last 29 years. The MacLean family offers our heartfelt thanks to all the caring St. Amant staff members who have provided Robert with excellent and loving professional care these past 29 plus years. We also offer our profound thanks and gratitude to Dr. Schacter and the various nurses and other health care workers at the Victoria General Hospital for their efforts on Robbie's behalf. In lieu of flowers, Robert's family requests donations be made in his memory to either the St. Amant Foundation, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9 or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8.
