EWHENIA WENHRYN (CERKOVNYK) October 8, 1930 - February 1, 2016 Mrs. Ewhenia Wenhryn passed away peacefully on February 1, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Ewhenia was born in Kniazpil, Lviv, Ukraine on October 8, 1930. At a young age, she developed a love of music, dance and Ukrainian culture. Singing and writing poetry brought her much joy throughout her life, as did cooking and baking. Her visits were always accompanied by a meticulously made box of treats and lively spontaneous song. In 1955, she completed nursing school and became a registered nurse. After working 10 years in the hospital in Lviv, Ukraine, she furthered her education and became successfully certified as a plastic surgery nurse. Ewhenia immigrated to Canada with her husband and two daughters on January 27, 1976, seeking a new life for her family in Winnipeg. In addition to raising her children, Ewhenia worked at Holy Family Nursing Home and was active in the Ukrainian community as a member of Sts. Volodymyr & Olha Cathedral and the Institute Prosvita' women's league. Ewhenia will be lovingly remembered for her strength, wit and sense of humour. She is dearly missed by her daughters Luba (Marko) Novak and Zoriana Sansgster, and her granddaughters Bohdanna Novak and Lesia Sangster. Ewhenia was predeceased by her loving husband, Hryhory Wenhryn in 1982, and by her father Vasil, her mother Mary and her siblings Vasil, Olga and Mykola. She now rests beside Hryhory at All Saints Cemetery. Funeral services in Ewhenia's honour were observed by her closest family and friends in a small, private service on Saturday, February 6, 2016 officiated by The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok at Korban Funeral Chapel. Carrying her to her final resting place were pallbearers John Novak, Oliver Novak, Anton Bris and Alain Fourcade.
