LARRY SMITH It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Larry Smith on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the age of 55 years, after courageously battling ALS for two and one half years. Larry was born in Geraldton, ON on February 29, 1960. Larry was the beloved son of Eileen Smith, dear father to Taylor and Jessica and loving companion to Lynn Prejet and her sons, Eric and Marc. He will also be missed by his three brothers, Greg (Lori), Terry (Christina), Chris (Marisol), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Larry worked at Manitoba Hydro, where he made so many lasting friendships. He enjoyed travelling, gardening, good food and being with family and friends. Larry had a terrific sense of humour, a quick wit and a smile that lit up a room. Larry's family would like to express their profound gratitude to the ALS Society, Diana Rasmussen, the Deer Lodge ALS team, the St. Boniface Palliative Unit, and his loving homecare family provided by Harshi and Carmen for their wonderful care. In keeping with Larry's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Larry may be made to ALS Society of Manitoba. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • "The comfort of having a friend may be taken away, but not that of having had one." -- Seneca Only the good I guess is what they say..... Larry was a very rare type of person, reflected in so many of the comments herein. Even at some of his most challenging setbacks, he still managed to find the time and strength to help make others feel better of their situations. He was always someone whom could truly be relied upon, and conversely was also so appreciative of almost any type of small gesture directed his way. We're all going to miss Larry immensely. My condolences to all of Larry’s family, and a special admiration for and heartfelt thank you to Lynn, whom had provided Larry with so many good times and memories over the last many years, and for having been a tower of strength, so loving and so dedicated to Larry during some very difficult and challenging times. - Posted by: Jeff Stanton (friend) on: Feb 26, 2016

  • Larry will definitely be missed around the neighbourhood! Such a positive person, always nice to chat with. Our sympathies go out to Lynn and his daughters/family. - Posted by: Chantal &Darryl Lancaster (Neighbours) on: Feb 25, 2016

  • There is no doubt about the comment "smile that lit up the room". When I heard of Larry's passing, that was my first visual memory. Larry began working at Bristol Aerospace shortly after me and we loved sharing comical stories about our bosses (not bad, just comical, in case any of them are reading this)! There is nothing more to say but what a great guy Larry was and how you don't know what a person meant to you until you sit and think about it then it is too late. I miss you Larry and it is too bad we lose touch with each other as we move on in our careers. - Posted by: Rob Walker (Colleague) on: Feb 25, 2016

  • Larry was the best!! Always smiling, always jovial, always with the "How ya doin' Peg??" I don't ever remember seeing him mad. We had a great common interest and bond in pets - in particular cats. He always inquired about mine and he loved to share stories about his "Sugar". I was able to visit with him one day after he had already retired from work, with one of my rescue kitties. He was so excited - his face completely lit up when he realized I had brought my kitten Zoey for a quick visit. He was so excited to cuddle and visit with her, I hated to leave. He had a such a kind heart. He will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Peggy Wasylishen (Friend/Co-Worker - Manitoba Hydro) on: Feb 25, 2016

  • Larry was as nice a person as anyone could ever want to meet. His glass was always half full, never half empty. His positive attitude was a trait that I truly admired and envied because he endured some difficult circumstances in his life, even before the onset of his tragic illness. I called him a saint, only half jokingly. He was a great friend to me and many others and, most importantly, a wonderful partner for Lynn. My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to Lynn, Eric, Marc and all of Larry's family members. He will be missed. RIP, my friend. - Posted by: John Horn (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2016

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Larry a few years ago, through Lynn. We often rode the bus to work together and would often joke that we were BBF's - Bus Buddies Forever, the three of us. I loved Larry's smile, sense of humour and we would often bug Lynn together. Great memories! He was an awesome person! I will miss you immensely, Larry! Hugs forever. xoxo - Posted by: Dominique Esteves (Friend and Bus Buddy) on: Feb 23, 2016
