MARIA ZUK (BOJKO) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother Maria, at the age of 94, on February 20, 2016 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Mourning her loss are her daughter Orysia; son Andrew; granddaughter Tasia; great-niece Anna of Winnipeg; as well as her sister, Anastasia and many other relatives in Ukraine. Maria was predeceased by her husband Harry, and her brother Ivan. Maria was born in the village Velyka Sushytsya, Lvivska oblast, Ukraine. At the age of 19 she was forced to leave her home to work in a German labour camp during the Second World War. In 1947 she immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada and worked on a one-year contract at Victoria Hospital and then in a sewing factory. She met Harry and they married in 1952 and started their family. Maria loved to bake and worked at Northwest Bakery and Eaton's Bake Shop. Maria cared unselfishly for so many - her family in Winnipeg, her and her husband's relatives in Ukraine, friends and the family pets. She maintained her Ukrainian culture and instilled it in her children. Maria was always doing something - gardening, embroidery, needlepoint, sewing - but most of all cooking and baking the most delicious food. She also loved to travel to Ukraine, the United States, Mexico and within Canada. Maria had a great sense of humour and loved to make others laugh. She will be sadly missed. Sincere thanks to Holy Family Home and Seven Oaks Hospital staff for their compassion, support and kindness. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of your mother. I remember your mom to be a lovely, kind lady who invited me into your home on several occasions and we all chatted and ate delicious donuts or longjohns at your kitchen table. May God comfort you and may your cherished memories of your wonderful mother help to strengthen you and heal your broken heart. Bless all of you. - Posted by: Irene Krawchuk (Stevenson) (Childhood friend) on: Feb 25, 2016
