MICHAEL IAN HOFFER
Date of Passing: Mar 02, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL IAN HOFFER "Life's Been Good" Michael Ian Hoffer was a skilled pilot, successful entrepreneur, fearless adventurer, loving, adoring and amazing husband and father and a gentle brother, uncle and friend. Above all, Michael was an inspiration of kindness, patience and unconditional love, always bringing out the best in people. Michael was born in Winnipeg and lived his life to the very fullest between Winnipeg, Lake of the Woods, Montreal and Jamaica. As an extraordinary businessman, following in the footsteps of his father, Michael was excellent in achieving his enterprise goals. He launched ground-breaking, water purification services with WaterMart, built his latest venture LED Outdoor Advertising, and grew AirPark for over 25 years in Winnipeg. Michael created the perfect world for himself and those close to him balanced with his love for flying, scuba, fishing, mountains, music, felines, and many quiet moments in the sun with his coffee and favourite war novel in hand; all of the things he loved woven between his three true loves, Hélène, Vanessa and Ilyse. Our dearly beloved husband and father, Michael, took his last flight into a beautiful, clear blue sky at 5:30 p.m. on March 2, 2016, just as the sun began to set. Our General fought hard, never backing down. Michael was predeceased by his mother Ethel (Rabinovitch) and father Ephriam Hoffer. He leaves behind his wife Hélène (Levac) Hoffer, his twin daughters Vanessa and Ilyse Hoffer, his cats Aurora, Anna and Maxie. He also leaves behind the large, loving Hoffer, Levac and Rabb families as well as many loyal friends. This is a sudden, devastating and unexpected loss for us all. A Come and Go Celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road. Thank you to all of our family and friends for your endless support during this difficult time. Thank you to all of the special, hardworking doctors and nurses and Spiritual Care staff at the St. Boniface Intensive Care Medical and Surgical Unit. Our special thanks to Dr. Diane Normandin, from Montreal, for being by our side. Words are not enough to express our gratitude to all of you. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the most deserving Intensive Care Medical Surgical Unit at St. Boniface Hospital Foundation in Michael's name. I started out working for Michael and ended up working with him. He opened up a new world for me. He always pushed you for the best along with all the others he knew. Always a smile with a happy eye look. I will miss him even though I have not talked to him as much as I would liked have. I worked for him in Manitoba/Florida and California. If he called me today I would say where do you want me to go now and thank him for the opportunity. You will be missed my friend Gary - Posted by: gary calder (friend/co worker vantasy) on: Aug 12, 2018

Michael and I were friends as teenagers with occasional meetings into adulthood after I moved from Winnipeg. I would see Mike at school daily and almost every weekend when we were 16, 17 years old. Some pretty amazing and important heartfelt times as we all sorted out our life desires pre adulthood. I remember Mike as generally soft-spoken unless he disagreed and even then his strength always showed sensitivity and caring. Me and my friends really trusted Mike- especially his driving. Maybe this is odd to say... He may have saved our lives once when some guys from a rough neighborhood were chasing us. We switched drivers without stopping the car so Mike could take the wheel. He skillfully got us out without a scratch. Peace to Mike as he navigates on the journey of his soul close to God. Condolences to the family who were blessed for so many years to be close with this beautiful man. - Posted by: Seymour Koblin (friend) on: Mar 27, 2016

Helene, I am so sorry to hear of your devastating loss. Michael was such a gentle presence, and knowing he is not in this world anymore, makes it less bright. We are incredibly saddened by Michael’s passing. Helene, Ilyse, and Vanessa, we are grieving with you. Michael was truly a special man. In the battle of his life, he united people who had never met, to rally behind him as “team Michael”. This is a testament to the kind of man he was, and the kind of man who will continue to live in our hearts. Our fondest memories of Michael are those we shared with him at the Lake of the Woods, and most recently, in Jamaica. Sailing, flying, boating, and even baking apple cake with him, are some of the precious moments we enjoyed together. These are the beautiful memories we must cling to, remembering him in his happiest times. “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively” Bob Marley Fly High Michael! - Posted by: Tammy & Francois () on: Mar 06, 2016

I remember Michael as a child when I dated his sister Robbin. His father was a mentor of mine. Wonderful man who loved life and his family. I knew him primarily through a mutual good friend David Reycraft. My condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: mark rosenfield (Family friend) on: Mar 05, 2016

I remember well the business side of your husband and father. I also recall seeing Michael at a concert with his girls, a few years ago, looking so proud to be their dad and sharing his generation of music with them. During my time with airmiles I enjoyed the meetings ,as Michael had this ability to make you feel comfortable in his business surroundings. My condolences to Hélène and the entire extended family on this unexpected news. - Posted by: Laurie Gydé (Former Airmiles sales rep) on: Mar 04, 2016

I am greatly saddened by the loss of Michael. He was taken far too early. I know he fought hard and was surrounded by love during his battle. Michael and Hélène both took great joy in proving me wrong when I said that something couldn't be done. My thoughts are with you all. - Posted by: Ryan Rawluk (Colleague) on: Mar 04, 2016

Hélène, Vanessa and Ilyse, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss of Michael. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Michael on the business side of his life. Each and every time, he greeted me with a big warm smile, and always made me laugh. He was an idea man, with incredible passion. My favourite memories will be how excited he would get when he had a new idea. He loved you all so much. I will miss him dearly. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
