Our beloved William passed away on Monday, February 29, with his family at his side at the Foyer Valade. He leaves to mourn his wife of 69 years Lucille (née Gay); his children, Lynn (Barry), Roland (Thérèse), Gisèle, Nicole (Peter); 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Bill was born to Wilfred and Lucie Dion on January 23, 1922 in Fisher Branch, the sixth of eight children. He was predeceased by his brothers Romeo, Adelaire, Leo and Raymond. He is survived by his siblings, Eugene (Eva), Jeanne and Rose (Herb). In 1942, he joined the RCAF and proudly served his country until the end of the war. In 1946 he married Lucille and they settled in Saint-Boniface to raise their family. Bill took up barbering on Taché, a career that lasted 45 years. There was not a head he did not know in St.B. Although he did travel, Bill was happiest at home or at the cottage at Plage Albert with his grandkids and his garden. His tomatoes and beans were legendary. He loved building things and helping his family. He often showed up with his tools, just in case. We all have proof of his talents in our homes and cottages. Dad was a humble, hard-working and honest man. His smile was contagious as the staff at Foyer Valade often noted. A celebration of life followed by a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, March 7 at 10:10 a.m. at the Saint-Boniface Basilica. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bill's name can be made to Siloam Mission or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
