DAVID MACDONALD It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dave Macdonald on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Riverview Health Centre; he was 73. Dave is survived by his brother Gary (Sandi), daughter Laura (Kevin) and grandkids Lindsay and Carter, and son Darren (Marlo). He was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Red Macdonald, and his sister Gail. He will be missed by family members, and the many friends and colleagues whose lives he touched. Dave was born and raised in Winnipeg. After obtaining a Masters degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, he returned home to practice social work at multiple agencies, including Child and Family Services. A compassionate and principled person, Dave was supportive and generous in all aspects of his life. He was loyal and kind, listened without judgment, and was a fierce advocate for clients, coworkers, friends and family. Many considered him a mentor. Dave loved playing golf and poker, spending time with his family, and meeting up with his buddies at the St. B or the Norwood. A hitchhiking trip through Europe as a young man was a defining experience of his life, as were the births of his two kids and grandkids. His sense of humour will be greatly missed. Instead of a funeral service, a private gathering will be held at a later date for close friends and family. Laura and Darren would like to thank the medical staff who cared for him over the past several years, and the friends who supported him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare or a charity of your choice. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Always enjoyed working with Dave and we had many fun golf games together. He certainly mentioned his family whenever he could. His non conformist lifestyle was a breath of fresh air. He was one of the best at consulting a case and understanding all aspects of the situation. He was a pleasure to know and I'll miss him Terry - Posted by: Terry Williams (co-worker and friend) on: Jun 07, 2016

  • I am sorry. I don't receive the paper and just noticed this.Dave was one of a kind. A true gentleman. He and i worked on the 2006 Child Death Review for the Childrens Advocate. We travelled to Thompson and Dauphin together.he was always so much fun to be around. He loved his family and during our travels , he would speak so proudly of them all. Three years ago , he may have saved my life. We chatted on the phone and he said "please quit smoking so this doesn't happen to you". I kept thinking about how emphatic he was and so caring - and after 45 years of smoking - quit cold turkey. And have stayed a non smoker. Thank you my friend. The world was blessed to have.had you. And i was blessed to have known you as a friend. - Posted by: Jocelyn Greenwood () on: May 14, 2016

  • My deepest condolences Laura and Darren. Your father was definitely one of a kind; his impact on my life was immensely positive and I am so grateful and honoured to have been included in his circle of friends. His love for you both was so evident; whenever speaking of either or both of you he became totally animated, his face lit up and he just swelled with pride. He was definitely one of the most kind and decent men I've ever met. I already miss him. - Posted by: Jan Henley (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2016
