JOAN ELIZABETH BETTESS February 6, 1928 - March 7, 2016 Joan Elizabeth Bettess (nee Ritchie) passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on March 7, 2016 at the Health Sciences Centre. Mom was born and lived all her life in Winnipeg. Mom had many wonderful memories of growing up in the Riverview neighbourhood. She attended Kelvin High School and worked for the Canadian Wheat Board and Manitoba Hydro. Especially in her later years, she loved to travel - trips to Hawaii, Europe, New York, and the Maritimes. Some of Mom's favourite pastimes were Bridge, along with crossword puzzles, shopping, and visiting with friends. Mom spent six wonderful years living at The Parkway Retirement Community. She loved it there with the activities, the people, and the staff. Mom is survived by her son Ted, daughter Karen Clements, granddaughter Kayla McSwain (Dan) and great-grandchildren Devlin and Syrus, grandson Dennon McSwain (Stefanie) and great-grandchildren Rylee, Tius, and Layla. Mom loved people and was loved by many. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Jack Bettess, and her parents Tom and Willa Ritchie. Cremation has taken place, as per Mom's wishes. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice. • My sincere condolences to Karen and Ted. Your Mother and I were born a week apart and started Grade one at Riverview School together. Our friendship has spanned the intervening years as we exchanged birthday and Christmas cards and phone calls.
