MARINA THERESA NOVIKOFF
Date of Passing: Mar 23, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARINA THERESA NOVIKOFF It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Marina Theresa Novikoff (nee Teel) in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the tender age of 52. She was predeceased by older brother David in infancy. Left behind to mourn her loss are her beloved husband Ari and cherished son Jakob; parents, Garth and Gloria Teel; brother Garth Teel (Debbie); sister Lisa Adam (Jay); sister Laura Allardice (James); in-laws Sandra and David Novikoff; sister-in-law Brenlee Olfert (Ryan) and honourary sister Gloria Marie Robins. Marina loved her nieces and nephews fiercely, Mathew, Sam, Meagan, Amanda, Noah, Nicolas, and Matthew. There are aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues too numerous to mention. She loved you all and appreciated her special relationship with each of you. In truth, Marina's greatest joy was her family. She was grateful every day to be Jakob's mother and Ari's wife. Her favourite days were spent taking care of her "Cub". Her years spent as a pharmacy tech with Canada Safeway fostered many personal and professional relationships that were important to her, which she treasured until her last day. Marina had many customers that were simply "her customers". Marina's mom and sisters will be forever grateful for the three wonderful days we spent at Hecla Resort less than two weeks prior to her passing. Treasured memories were made. Marina was blessed to have had the opportunity to bond with family, friends and nature while visiting Lisa's house at Winnipeg Beach. She spent countless hours feeding the squirrels, filling the bird feeders and "talking" to the blue jays earning her the nick name Snow White. If you wish to share a memory of Marina, there will be a memory jar at the memorial service. A celebration of Marina's life will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MS Society of Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Mom, I can't believe it's been three years. It feels like yesterday we were sitting on the couch watching hockey or talking about school and music. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. It's hard here without you, even more than you could imagine. I miss you so much. Things were better when you were around and it hurts me deep in my heart that I can't go back to those days. I really miss you mom. - Posted by: Jakob Novikoff (Son) on: Jun 17, 2019

I am a Safeway pharmacy customer and met Marina a few years ago. Marina was a lovely lady, always smiling and a pleasure to see. I was shocked today when I found out she had passed away. It had been several weeks since I had to renew my prescriptions and it was not until today (June 6) that I found Marina had passed. What a shock it was, as it was for so many others. Safeway made a great decision in hiring her as a pharmacy technician. She was friendly and professional in all her dealings with the public. My wife, Beverly, and I extend our condolences to the family and to her colleagues. She is and will continue to be, missed at work and at home I am sure. - Posted by: Gavin Scott (Safeway Pharmacy Customer) on: Jun 06, 2016

When I was dealing with my own health issues and picking up prescription after prescription, I remember all the kind words Marina said, and the encouragement she gave me during those trying times. She was patient and always made me feel special; said she was proud of me. Reading these many tributes, I now realize she made everyone feel special. That was her gift. She was a warm and loving person and she will be very much missed. We were shocked to learn of her passing. Our deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Kathy and Ron (pharmacy customers) on: Apr 20, 2016

It was with great shock and sadness that we learned today of Marina's passing. It was always such a delight to spend even the few minutes with her every time we visited the pharmacy. No matter how busy the pharmacy was, she would take the time to ask about my parents and how they were doing. It was like visiting a caring friend. Truly a one in a million gem. Glad to have had the honour of knowing her. She will be greatly missed. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with the family. She will be remembered fondly. May you rest in peace, Marina. - Posted by: Leslie & BIll (Customer) on: Apr 18, 2016

I took for granted how lovely Marina was in terms of customer service and her caring demeanour that was obviously genuine. It is evident from the many posts from other customers. What a sad reminder to always be present and acknowledge the beautiful souls around us. I saw Marina frequently in the last two yrs and she was always so pleasant. Last year brought about a lot of upheaval for myself which I think she picked up on. When I went to pick up a prescription just before the new year, she leaned as though to tell me a secret and said "This is going to be a great year for you. I just know it." It may be silly but it gave me great comfort and felt like a good omen. My deepest condolences to Marina's family. - Posted by: Sad Safeway Customer (Customer) on: Apr 10, 2016

I was picking up my husband's prescription today (April 9th) and saw Marina's picture beside a vase of flowers in the display case. I was shocked to hear the news of her passing. Although I only knew her as my favorite pharmacy tech I feel like I have lost my best friend. As mentioned by so many before me, she was a warm and caring individual who would make every encounter a pleasurable experience. Our condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. Another angel among us. Carole and Joseph Langlois - Posted by: Carole Bouchard-Langlois (Safeway customer) on: Apr 10, 2016

When Laura and I wrote our sister's eulogy we remarked about how easy it was to write about Marina. She is/was truly as kind as all of these comments have reflected. Always tiding my house, feeding the birds, never complaining just helping. Continuely listening attentively to my young children, her nephews, carefully and selectively buying just the right gift for her neices making certain they knew they were charished, unique and special. There will not be enough space in the comment section to express what we have lost however your outpouring of words, comments, nourishment, donations, thoughtful cards have eased the pain of the unthinkable. We feel the warmth of your words, the depth of your comments and with all of the love in our hearts we thank you so much for your kindness. We have a close family and together will ensure her son Jakob will be cherished. My sister, the best part of me,the heart of our family, the lover and caretaker of nature and most importantly Jakob's mom. A job that she wanted more than anything, to be his mom. We will not say goodbye Toonie, we will see you in our dreams and keep you alive with our love, forever your middle sis Lisa Jo - Posted by: Lisa Adam (Sister) on: Apr 10, 2016

Marina was a truly special person and we are all better for having known her. Marina made a special connection with my great-grandmother who was a customer, then continued that relationship with my grandmother and my mom as they in turn became her customers. I later had the chance to get to know her as a pharmacy student working at Safeway - of course she still remembered my great grandmother years later. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Nadia () on: Apr 09, 2016

I've been shopping at Safeway for about 20 years and have had the pleasure of seeing Marina often during that time. Marina was one of the most engaging, helpful Safeway employees. Picking up a prescription was guaranteed to be a happy, pleasant experience because of her. Each time, I looked forward to seeing her. She took extra time to research my questions, talking to her contacts and calling me back. I'm looking at a package she made for me, after taking the time to provide an in depth explanation. To be able to recall details of our transactions to this extent makes her more than an employee - she was something very special. - Posted by: A. Lloyd (Safeway pharmacy customer) on: Mar 30, 2016

Marina was a lovely person, so warm and welcoming. She knew how to sincerely engage with her customers, forming real relationships. So many people mistakenly think that professionalism requires that we suppress our personalities and avoid genuine connection. But Marina knew better. Thoroughly professional and gloriously human, I will miss seeing her at Safeway. - Posted by: Debbie Patterson (customer) on: Mar 28, 2016

Marina was indeed a very special women. We have known her since she worked at Shoppers Drug Mart in Unicity when she was in her teens. We saw her almost every time we went to get prescriptions at Safeway and even when we were just shopping we would stop to say hello. She had her son the same time my daughter had hers in St. Boniface Hospital, so they always had much to talk about whenever we saw her. She loved to talk about her son. She was very proud of him. Going to Safeway for prescriptions will not be the same without her. She was the friendliest and most caring person. She always made time to ask how the family was. She had such a lovely face which matched her personality. Rest in Peace Marina. Our family will miss you. Marina was one of those special people who make a difference in the world. I was fortunate enough to be one of her customers at Safeway Pharmacy for many years and it was always a joy to see her smiling face, to feel the warmth of her bubbly personality, and have a brief chat. She was always such an uplifting, positive-minded person and seeing her made my day. Marina, you are a shining light and the world is darker for your absence. Marina was one in a million. My husband loved to tease her and tell her silly jokes that would make her blush. She was simply a wonderful, sweet person. When Ian died last year and I went into the pharmacy to pick something up, my sister and I told her of his passing and she teared up and hugged us both like we were family. Every time I saw her after that, she would ask to see pictures of my grandkids and tell me how she missed seeing Ian. I hope they met each other wherever they might be and she is blushing at his latest silly story. I will miss you Marina. Godspeed. - Posted by: Loreen Morden (Customer) on: Mar 28, 2016
