LOUISE HERMANCE DELORME (nee MARTEL) Peacefully, and with dignity, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Left to cherish her memory are her children, son Martin (Nina Merkulov), son David (Mariel), daughter Linda (Robert Payne), grandchildren Carine and Gaelle Delorme, great-grandchildren, Mila, Jules, Rose, and sister Olive Jacques of Detroit, Michigan. Louise was predeceased by her parents Georges and Albertine Martel, by her husband Joseph "Doc" Delorme on January 10, 1996, and by her brothers Albert, Edward, and sisters Eva, Polly and Alice. Louise was born in St. Boniface where she was raised in a family of seven children. The Martels were a musical family who would gather around the piano to sing and dance. Lou began a career in retail sales at The Bay downtown where she worked in the lingerie department, and children's wear. Mom retired from The Bay on February 1, 1990 after 25 years of loyal service. Mom was so good at her job that she won many awards for exceeding her sales quota and even had her picture posted by the main floor elevators for employee of the month. Louise met the love of her life, "Doc", while living on Berry Street in Winnipeg. They were married on September 27, 1946 and spent nearly 50 wonderful years together. Under Doc's tutelage, mom became an avid golfer and bowler. She and dad traveled to many locations in Europe to play golf, and to visit family and friends. They were also fabulous dance partners. Lou was a woman of faith, and was among the first of the parishioners to worship at St. Bernadette Church. Lou was active as a member of the Ladies Craft Group at St. Bernadette's Parish where she learned that she was, in fact, crafty enough to assist with the projects. Her greatest pleasure however came from cleaning and organizing the storage closets. Mom always liked things nice and tidy. Lou was a member of the Catholic Women's League and was honored by the group for her years of faithful devotion. Those who knew our mother will remember her happy nature, her beautiful smile and her laugh. In accordance with our mother's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Road, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba by telephone 204-943-6622 or online at www.alzheimer.mb.ca The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J.
