Albert, better known by his beloved grandchildren as "Papa", was born in The Pas, Manitoba on March 4, 1938. The oldest of seven children Papa took a patriarchal lead right from early childhood. He spent most of his life in Grand Rapids, Manitoba as a fisherman who loved the lake, and working for Manitoba Hydro for 37 years. In Grand Rapids, Papa was a mayor for three terms, Fire Chief, and an advocate for the Manitoba Metis Federation. Papa loved square dancing and also participated in other Grand Rapids Winter Festival events. Papa loved his curling. He was a pioneer of curling in Grand Rapids, coaching as well as curling with his beloved broom he nicknamed "the rink rat", and right up until the end he was watching his "Jennifer Jones" and his "adopted grandson" Stoughton curl. Papa was a busy man, but always managed to make time for the loves of his life, his grandchildren. Papa's smile was contagious, and he enjoyed making people laugh right up until the end. His sense of humour and teasing will certainly be missed by all who knew him. Worked many years with Albert and found him to be a good friend and co-worker. He had a great scents of humour and many a time came out of the office to lend a hand on any job going in the powerhouse. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. RIP Albert. You are with many old friends now. - Posted by: Robert & Marina Snyder (Friend & co-worker) on: Apr 26, 2016

I met Albert when I moved to Grand Rapids from Texas in 1987 with my then husband Dan "Stick" Marchant he was always very kind and friendly to my family and myself. He was an awesome fiend and neighbor. Go rest high on that mountain Albert your work here on earth is done. - Posted by: Starr Marchant (friend) on: Apr 18, 2016
