GEORGE FORBES It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Forbes on April 12, 2016 at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 87 years. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soul-mate Vera; son Dan (Linda); grandchildren, Ryan (Candace) and Jessica; great-grandchildren, James and Sebastian; brother Curt and all other family members. George was predeceased by two of his brothers, Murray and Ross. George was the eldest of four brothers, who were born and raised on the family farm, in Greenway, Manitoba. Growing up in the Great Depression Era instilled the values of commitment to family, strong work ethic, and the responsibility to help others. For those that knew George, knew that these were the cornerstone values in which he lived his life and in turn passed on to his family to carry forward. George was extremely proud, loyal and committed to his family, neighbours and community. George's life was forever completed by a chance encounter of Vera, a young city girl, visiting the family farm in 1946. Both immediately recognized their special connection and married in 1955, a marriage lasting nearly 61 loving years. From farm to the big city and eventually starting their home in Transcona, in 1962, George worked at CN as a carman from 1966 to 1994. Continuing into retirement, George was Vera's rock, facing life's challenges together and enjoying their growing family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transcona Memorial United Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice, in memory of George. Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life gathering for George, over refreshments at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016. Funeral Arrangements in Care of: Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street - 204-224-1525 A book of condolences is available at www.wheelerfuneral.com
