LORNE FREDERICK CLERIHEW April 29, 1945 - April 18, 2016 It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Lorne Frederick Clerihew, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend, on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the age of 70 years. Lorne is survived by his sisters, Carol Adam, Eileen (Ron) Didora and Margaret Clerihew. Also left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews, Michael (Cheryl Lynn) Adam, Cheryl Dawn Chubaty, Heather (Trevor) Didora and Blair (Tania) Didora. Three great-nieces, Bryanna, Cadence, Amber and three great-nephews, Caleb, Grayson and Malcom. Lady, his four-footed furry friend, who misses him immensely. Lorne was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Edna (Whettell) Clerihew. Lorne was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Oak Bluff on the Clerihew homestead. He enjoyed caring for the animals and working the land. He attended Oak Bluff Elementary School and Sanford Collegiate. In 1967, he spent two months in Gillam, MB, working for BACM Construction. He also worked on the floodway with Hugh Munroe Construction. Then in 1969, Lorne started his career at Inland Cement (now called Lehigh Inland), where he retired after 41 and one half years. Lorne enjoyed the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews and great-nephews and nieces. He put many a mile on his always newer vehicles driving the countryside, checking out the crops, checking out the car and equipment dealerships. Lorne and Lady especially enjoyed their Sunday drives in the country and stops at the numerous chip stands they found along the way. Lorne met and made many acquaintances on these Sunday drives. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many people. First and foremost, we must thank our sister Margaret for taking care of Lorne 24/7 while he was at home. We would also like to thank the staff at HSC, CancerCare, WRHA Palliative Home Care, the Home Care Aides and Riverview for their wonderful care and compassion. Lorne fought a very hard but short battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club 3870, 3459 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB. Please dress casual. In accordance with Lorne's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held with immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or a charity of your choice. I was doing a bit of family history research today (September 24, 2017) and came across this obituary. Obviously this was a relative, as my grandfather Peter Clerihew of Stuartfield, Aberdeenshire, was one of the many brothers of Alexander Clerihew, the founder of the Winnpeg branch of the family. My grandparents tried emigrating c1900, separately, both having older brothers in Manitoba, but stayed only long enough to meet each other, marry, and for my father to be born in Winnipeg in 1905. They then tried a few years in the milder climate of Vancouver and had two more sons there, but decided to return to Scotland and my father grew up in Old Aberdeen. What surprised me about this obituary of my (second?) cousin Lorne was his striking resemblance to my own father, Peter Alexander Clerihew, who died at 67, both of them taking after my great-grandfather Peter Clerihew in appearance. I can well believe Lorne was a very nice person. My father was one of the nicest men you could ever meet. I still miss him, as I'm sure Lorne's family miss him still.
