PETER STEFANKO September 12, 1923 - April 21, 2016 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather Peter on April 21, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Linda, son Peter James, grandchildren Jennifer, Rob (Tannis), great-grandchildren Nikolaus, Hunter, Hudson, Gabriel and Layla, brother Alex (Joyce), along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth, his mother Nettie, his father John, brother Nick, and sisters Anne, Mary and Victoria. Peter grew up in north Winnipeg. When the Second World War broke out he served his county with four years in the military as an anti-aircraft gunner. After the war he returned home, and fell in love with the girl next door, his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Mills. They were married for 65 wonderful years until her passing in 2014. He briefly worked for Bristol Aerospace and then spent 42 years at Dominion Bronze as a steelworker. He was proud to be the president of his local Steelworkers' Union. He brought his craft home making ornamental railings for the entire neighbourhood. Whenever there was a task to be done around the house Peter was able to fix the problem without calling out for extra help. A few of his greatest accomplishments include building his cottage at Grand Beach and building a truck camper in which the family enjoyed many summer vacations. Peter loved holiday gatherings and of course a great home cooked meal. Nothing meant more to him than having his loving family close by. Peter was always available with an open ear and ready to offer rock-solid advice, but first, he would say: "Eat something, you'll feel better". A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Vichnaya Pamyat - Rest in eternal peace. You will be in our hearts forever.
