LORNA MARIAN WILSON
Date of Passing: Apr 20, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNA MARIAN WILSON It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Lorna on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Lorna leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Lisa (David), granddaughter Dana and two grandsons Shawn and Cody Bailey as well as her dear sister Val, brother Peter in England and their families. Lorna was a very kind, loving and giving person who amazed everyone with her talent since she went blind in 1978. Lorna also lost her hearing shortly after. She could do things a lot of people with sight and hearing couldn't do. Lorna was born in West Bromwich, England in 1938. She came to Canada in 1967 and lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario where she operated a Mini Maid cleaning service for many years. It was there she met Mary Sugg, a friend who turned into a sister. Lorna and Mary went on many trips together until 2002 when Lorna decided a move to Winnipeg would be beneficial for her, as there were more opportunities for the blind. Lorna's diminished vision and hearing did not discourage her from seeking new avenues for involvement in life at CNIB. Lorna met many people struggling with similar physical difficulties. She pursued and appreciated any appropriate services offered by CNIB that would assist her in her daily living. Lorna could often be found in the CNIB store repairing or updating her gadgets. She seldom missed an outing at CNIB. In 2002, Lorna along with another client introduced the CNIB coffee group which still flourishes today and offers opportunities for peer support. In the pottery class she crafted some lovely creations, which she shared with many others. Lorna appreciated books and joined the audio book club. She had chosen a book for April and to her delight it was enjoyed by all. Lorna also looked forward to taking to the dance floor with the dance group. Her optimistic, generous, unassuming manner touched both staff and fellow clients. Lorna was respected and liked by all. She was a true friend to those fortunate enough to have received her affection and thoughtfulness by way of regular phone calls "daily if needed," pleasant visits a luncheon or coffee. In September of 2014 Lorna moved to Lions Place on Portage Avenue. The short time she lived there was a happy time for her. She made many new friends there which wasn't surprising because who wouldn't like Lorna? Tragically her time there was too short. In closing we would like to extend a special thank you to Richard and Linda Jones, Roda Kagan, Roda's daughter Donna, Bernice Adams, Corinne Rumak as well as Marce and Eunice Parisien, old friends from 1967 for their care and kindness they showed Lorna. The family would also like to extend a thank you to Lions Place. In keeping with Lorna's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Flowers are gratefully declined, if friends so choose, donations in memory of Lorna may be made to the Book Club, Dance Group, or the Friday Group at CNIB Winnipeg. With Caring Thoughts of Sympathy for Lisa (David) and your family. Remembering you and your family of sympathy, and hoping it helps to know that others care and share your loss. Lorna and I have been calling each other for the last 15-20 years, taking turns calling each other every 2 weeks to keep each other updated on our lives. I will most definitely miss her calls every other week, I had always looked forward to her calls and our chats in general. I was actually going to surprise Lorna the weekend of April 24/16 and then turned out that I wasn't able to get away that weekend. I then received a call from Lorna's friend Mary telling me the sad news about Lorna. My thoughts and prayers will always be with you Lorna.XO - Posted by: Tammy Benvenuto (Friend) on: Apr 26, 2016

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance even with her physical difficulties. She was a very good example for the younger generations. She has been given a gift to make the most of everyday. We knew Lorna at our social dancing every Monday at Valour Community Centre. She was an awesome lady who loved dancing, laughing and very much enjoyed her life. Rest in peace; and never, never stop dancing up there in heaven...
