ANGELO POTENZA July 23, 1935 - April 21, 2016 Peacefully surrounded with the love and affection of his cherished family, Angelo Potenza passed away on April 21, 2016 at the age of 80 years old. He leaves behind his loving wife Teresa of 59 years, his children Dan Potenza (Marina), Carmela Cymbaluk (Kevin), Maddalena Douglas (JD) and Joe Potenza (Patricia). Most loving and caring grandfather to Christopher, Jessica, Ashley, Sean, Alessandro and Julia. We are comforted in that papa is reunited with his father Donato and mother Carmela along with sister Maria (Donato) Fusco. He is survived by his sisters Elisa (Late - Tony) Signore, Sister Ermelinda of Italy, Teresa (Benito) Carnevale and Pat (Dina) Potenza. He has numerous nieces and nephews that will cherish his memory as well. Papa was born in Ripacandida, Italy on July 23, 1935 in a large extended family. Angelo immigrated to Canada on December 1, 1956 and settled in Winnipeg where he has lived for over 50 years. He spent the majority of his work life at CP rail as a Machinist. Papa and Nonna's love story began at an early age and married in 1957. Together they shared a true appreciation of life and nurtured these values in their children. Our family was blessed with love, compassion and any time spent with papa was always filled with kindness, support, encouragement and guidance. Papa and Nonna's gracious nature touched many hearts. With their generosity and warm hearts, they always welcomed everyone into their home. Papa had a joyous spirit which brought happiness and laughter to every gathering. Papa and Nonna spent many years with family and friends at Grand Beach, Manitoba. In 1984, they opened Potenza Pizza a family business that saw papa working and spending time with family and friends during the summer months. Papa always had a smile and a glass of wine for everyone. He enjoyed tending to two gardens, making wine each year and playing bocce. Our family spent hours at the dinner table enjoying his wine and chatting about the beauty of life. So many of us were touched by his amazing hospitality and how he always made everyone feel so welcome and special. Papa would like to be remembered for all the good times and passion he had for life with absolutely no regrets. Papa was grateful for every day he was able to spend with his precious grandchildren and expressed how proud he was of each and every one of them. He will be remembered as a caring, generous, fun-loving, positive and non-judgmental individual. Papa was appreciated by more people than he would ever have realized. He has left us with so many memories to cherish, love and appreciate. We love you papa. We would like to thank Dr. Herd for papa's initial care at HSC but cannot say enough about the compassion and support we received from Dr Finlayson and the staff at Unit Four on the Fifth floor at the Seven Oaks hospital. Angelo "Amico di tutti a vita. Lasci nel nostro cuore, una profonda ferita." Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25 2016, at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, Rev. Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Viewing/Condolences will be held at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum, Green Acres Memorial Gardens Highway No.1 East at Navin Road.
