Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN ANITA CLAYTON (nee MEAD) September 6, 1932 - April 27, 2016 It is with deep heartfelt regret and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing after a long illness, of Anita Clayton at Selkirk and District General Hospital on April 27, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry Leslie and Frances Rebecca Mead (nee: Littlemore), by her brother Brian Mead, and husband Dennis Clayton. She is survived by her brother Colin (Barbara) and family in Talybont, Wales, her daughter Sandra Seal (Don), son Brian (Nancy), and grandchildren Catherine (Sean), Sean (Katie), and great-grandchildren Kade, Cora, and Ivy in BC. She will also be missed by her dearest friend of 48 years Pauline Martyniw and all her extended Martyniw Family in Selkirk and surrounding area. Anita was born and raised in Southport, Lancashire, England, she went to school in Southport followed by Pengwern College in Wales, where she had many friends and a great love of horseback riding. She was very close to her older brother Brian, who was lost at sea near the end of the Second World War. After college, she went to secretarial school, but later decided to embrace a nursing career in the W.R.E.N.S. until 1954. She met her husband Dennis, and they moved to Dublin, Ireland, for seven years, where she had her children Brian and Sandra. They moved back to Lincoln, England, where she continued nursing, specializing in pediatric care due to her special love of working with children. In June of 1968, Anita and Dennis with their children immigrated to Canada, and settled in Selkirk, MB. She worked at Selkirk Nursing home and later Selkirk Mental Health Centre where she cared for the elderly. In 1969, she and her best friend Pauline, along with Audrey Green, and Maida Walker, founded Tudor House Personal Care Home. She was an active member of the Board of Directors for 45 years and also founded and ran the Tudor Day Nursery in 1972 until her transition in 1988 to a management position in the nursing home. After her retirement in 1999, she remained active in both the life and business of the nursing home until her health started to fail after 2010. Anita and Pauline's friendship and business partnership continued for many years, they continued to develop many other business ventures including Woodland Courts, and Cambridge House. Anita enjoyed many years of travelling, exploring various areas of the world; she especially loved attending her niece Sarah's wedding in the beautiful seaside resort in Barmouth, Wales. Anita had a great love for children and animals, especially dogs and horses. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren; although some were far away, she always kept in touch and made frequent visits. One of her greatest regrets was that she was not able to spend more time with her grandchildren and never had the opportunity to know her great-grandchildren. Anita was a beloved aunt to all the Martyniw children and grandchildren. Anita was a loving Godmother to Trudy Martyniw (Costa), and was especially close to Tracy Martyniw (Flores), the youngest of the Martyniw children, whom she had known since birth. Anita remained under the care of her close friend Pauline until requiring the need for 24 hour nursing care at Tudor House Nursing Home in 2014 in Selkirk. She spent her last years enjoying daily meals with her daughter Sandra and friend Pauline, and being cared for by the wonderful nurses and health care aides. Anita will be greatly missed but never forgotten by both of the families that cared so much for her. Anita's family and the Martyniw family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care given to Anita at Selkirk Hospital by Dr. Alexander and staff, and in addition both families would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses, health care aides, and all the staff who did so much to make her stay at Tudor House Personal Care Home as happy and comfortable as possible. Funeral Service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home on May 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Mrs. Clayton was one of those fixtures in my childhood. My mother (Valerie Lee), worked at Tudor House, and I attended the day care there in summer. She was kind, and will be missed. - Posted by: Sandi Jones (family friend) on: Aug 04, 2016

Jo and I were very fortunate to be able to spend a short time with Anita and Pauline some years ago. The friendship she exuded and the warmth with which she received us will never be forgotten. We send our deepest condolences to her friends and family and especially to Pauline who we know was very close to Anita. It must be for Pauline a very sad loss of a true friend. - Posted by: Jo and Mike Pedersen (Related to the Martyniw family) on: May 05, 2016
