MEL ROGERS We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Mel Rogers, who died suddenly but peacefully in his home on Friday, April 29, 2016. Mel leaves to mourn his wife of over thirty years, Isabelle McInnes, his children Kelly (Rob) Massey, Mike (Allison Hay) Rogers, Isabelle's children Linda, Ron and Jim Demeule, his grandchildren, his sister-in-law Joan Rogers, and many extended family and friends. Mel was predeceased by his parents Howard and Charlotte, his brother Norm, and niece Christine Nolan. Mel was born Donald Melbourne Rogers in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Fort Garry, before moving to the St. James area, where he lived his entire adult life. Mel enjoyed a career in the building supply business; he enjoyed it so much he refused to retire and happily spent almost 30 years working with Kaycan Ltd. He loved his work and considered each of his colleagues and clients his friend. An active member of the sports community, he curled much of his life, is a past-president of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, golfed at CFB Winnipeg Golf Course and played/coached in the Crestview Men's Fastball league (Georgie's 3-D Canadiens) for many, many years. Mel loved animals and had a special bond with his buddy Boo II'. He enjoyed sitting on a sunny deck with neighbors, time at family and friends' cottages, and hosting BBQs at his place. A reception to celebrate Mel's life will be held Friday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. at Viscount Gort, 1670 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
