GIUSEPPE BELLINO
Born: Dec 15, 1946
Date of Passing: Jun 04, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGIUSEPPE (JOE) BELLINO December 15, 1946 - June 4, 2016 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Giuseppe (Joe) Bellino on June 4, 2016. Giuseppe leaves behind his three children, John (Jennifer), Joey (Jenifer) and Maria (Anders); and six grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Jakob, Ryan, Grace and Jillian. Giuseppe also leaves to grieve his passing Jennie Matteis (wife of 32 years); brothers, Luigi and Mario; sister Rosetta and many nieces and nephews. Giuseppe was predeceased by his parents and two siblings, Antonio and Theresa. Giuseppe was born fifth of six children in Cosenza, Italy on December 15, 1946. During his early years, he developed a passion and affinity for soccer in the fields of Grimaldi. At the young age of 16, Joe left Italy to find a new beginning and life for himself in Canada. He moved to Winnipeg in 1963, and began his long career tenure of work at Federal Pioneer Electric. Giuseppe would come to Canada and meet his wife Jennie in 1965. Giuseppe continued to follow his passion for soccer and played on many championship teams and his fondest memories were going to Bermuda to represent Canada in 1968. In 1969, he married Jennie and they had their three kids. When Joe wasn't watching his boys play soccer, his favourite pastimes included gardening and spoiling his baby girl. Joe's garden was the envy of every neighbour as it produced bounties of fresh vegetables and herbs. Joe gave back to the community and volunteered at Holy Rosary Church calling bingo, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and coached countless soccer teams. Upon concluding his playing career in soccer he continued as President of Itali-Inter Soccer Club. Joe made a healthy career for himself at Federal Pioneer but was a tireless worker and at times worked two jobs to create every opportunity for his family, including taking the family to Europe three times, putting all three kids through university and contributed to his kids weddings. Giuseppe would then endure challenges and struggles in his life, which led him to face the dark facets of mental illness. Beyond his own control and consciousness he would be led down a road to solidarity. It is with respect and love we called this misunderstood soul "Dad". We can only now honour your legacy and tell your story the way it should be told. You were a survivor, strong willed and determined. You will never be forgotten and forever in our hearts. It is with heavy hearts that your grandchildren will never have had the opportunity to know the beautiful man that you were but rest assured your legacy will be told countless times through us, family and friends. We love you Dad, today, tomorrow and forever. John, Joey and Maria. An intimate, private memorial mass will be held in Giuseppe's honour at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family would request a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 930 Portage Avenue. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. Deepest sympathies to a wonderful family. I remember 'uncle' Joe coming to watch me play soccer and the Carvelli clan coming to the Bellino family home for a healthy feast and grand soccer game at the park. We won't remember the illness, we will remember the wonderful times spent together. Love from the Carvelli's (Luigi, Billy, Carla, Geri, and Biagio) - Posted by: Luigi Carvelli (Family freind) on: Jun 10, 2016

As teenagers I remember the Joe that played soccer and fell in love with Jennie. We grew up just one street over from Joe and Jennie. Joe was a handsome young man full of life, after Joe and Jennie married we didn't see much of each other but always wondered what happened to them, I would see Joe once in a while, mental illness is an awful thing we all deal with it on a daily basis, recently Jennie and I reconnected. I saw your daughter at the Gap, didn't know she was your daughter but something told me I knew the face. I mentioned it to my daughter and she told me she was Jennie's daughter, as I had talked about Jennie to her. Sorry for your loss, it will be a hard road ahead. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Vincenza Cerasani Bertone (Friend of the family) on: Jun 09, 2016

I'm not quite sure if I had met Mr. Bellino before, I may have even played soccer against him in the early 80's, but getting to know his two sons (Johnny & Joey) and their families leads me to believe that he was a great family man, someone you would be proud to call a friend and a man who will be greatly missed by many.. - Posted by: john baillie (friends of his sons.) on: Jun 09, 2016
