STEFAN KORYTKO 1920 - 2016 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Stefan Korytko on June 13, 2016. Stefan passed peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital with his loving family at his side. He leaves behind his wife of 75 years, Sophia; daughter Lucy and Michael Skala; granddaughters Olia Skala, Halyna Skala-Tataryn and Andrew Tataryn (great-grandchildren Kalyna and Odessa), and extended family in Canada and Ukraine. He was born on January 9, 1920 in the Village Koltiv, in the Region Zolochiv, Province Lviv. He was taken in 1944 to Germany and was able to come to Canada in 1948. After 24 years apart his wife joined him in 1969. He met his only daughter for the first time when she was 33 years old when she and her family came to Canada. He spent many years working hard for the family sponsorship because at that time it was no easy task. He spent most of his working years at the University of Manitoba and retired in 1985. He was a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Taras Shevchenko Foundation, Oseredok, and Institute Prosvita. Since coming to Canada, he had been a Parishioner of St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Stefan will be remembered as a person with integrity, honour and respect for others. He had been recognized for his generosity by the Red Cross for donating over a number of years. His kindness and giving spirit will be deeply missed. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at Sts Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok officiating. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17 at Sts Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. • Вічная пам'ять. - Posted by: Alanna () on: Jun 19, 2016

  • Dearest Family of Stefan Korytko Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather . I remember Vujko Korytko very fondly, as a very determined and strong individual, and have relayed his life's mission to my family and friends many times. To me he was the epitome of the ultimate family man who took his vows very seriously, and did everything in his power to succeed in the difficult task of reunifying that which the Second World War tore apart. I remember him travelling the streets of Winnipeg on his bike, as he lived frugally in order to support his family left behind in the Soviet Union. He had many useful life skills and once helped my father build his garage. I often bumped into Vujko at St. Andrews College, at the University of Manitoba where he worked. He was always the optimistic and I enjoyed our chats. I am so glad things worked out for him and his family. His legacy lives on. Вічная пам'ять Нехай земля буде йому пухом!
