Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GEORGE KOPS John passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 with his family by his side. He was 99 years old and proud of it! John will be fondly remembered by his sons Bill, John, and Doug (Barbara); grandchildren Robin and Mairen; great-granddaughters Monet and Liv; brother George; stepdaughters Drinda (Dan), Peggy, Nancy (Jay) and their children; daughter-in-law Ruth; cousin Jake (Shirley) and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 2001; wife Dorothy in 2013, and earlier by his parents, brother Peter, sister Anne, and life-long friend Jack Daly. John was born in Chicago on March 12, 1917 and came to Winnipeg as a young child. He grew up on the family market garden in East St. Paul. He lived a full and adventurous life, first as a gardener and later as a lumberjack, soldier, entrepreneur, and for over 25 years a highly successful salesman at the Hudson's Bay Company. Following his retirement John renewed his love for golf and motorcycles. He was a regular at Kildonan Golf Course (golfing until he was 90+), and took pleasure in daily, fair weather rides on his Harley-Davidson. John is remembered by his family and friends as a hardworking, independent, pragmatic, clever, witty, generous, community-minded and loyal man with a great sense of humour. He was an all around good guy who gave his best to his family, friends and to everything he did. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. On his behalf, John's family would like to thank the staff on N1 North at Concordia Hospital and at Misericordia Place as well as home care staff at Concordia Village for their TLC. In lieu of flowers, should you wish to make a memorial donation, please do so to the Salvation Army or to Parkinson Research Foundation. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU & CO. My memories of John go back to kelvin community club always watching bill, play hockey and John was always so nice to us giddy girls who came out to watch our boy friends at the games. Always such a pleasant mannerism. I did see him about 10 years ago in an elevator and he didn,t look a bit different and we had a conversation and he was still that very nice guy. I am sure he will be missed he had a long full life. - Posted by: Janis Giesbrecht nee laidlaw (Old friend of Bill,s) on: Jul 06, 2016
