JOAN GOOLEY (nee BESYK) 1942 - 2016 Sadly on July 4, 2016, with her family at her side, Joan passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. At the time of her passing she leaves to mourn her loving husband Art, children Tracy (Kevin) Dobrowolski, Jason (Tracy) Gooley, Charlene Samagalski (Murray), and Darlene Swain, grandchildren Derek Samagalski, Tyler Samagalski (Janelle), Shawn Swain, Bryce Dobrowolski, and great-grandchildren Kallie and Baylee Samagalski. Also left to mourn her passing are sisters Frances Kulbaba, and Jackie (Wayne) Dola, brother Ryan (Bernice) Besyk, many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Ruth (Stan) Wityshyn, Pat Yablonski and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Jennie and Nicholas Besyk, sisters Helen Besyk, Bernice Gooley, and Joyce Scribny, brothers Tom Besyk, Bert Besyk, and Arnold Besyk, brothers-in-law Mike Kulbaba, Mike Halischuk, Wally Scribny, and her in-laws Ed and Helen Gooley, Esther and Stan Kozera, and Peter Yablonski. Joan was born in Winnipeg Beach where she attended school and spent her early years. Upon leaving school she worked several jobs in Winnipeg and moved to St. Andrews where she raised her family. Joan and Art ultimately moved to Selkirk after retirement. During the past year Joan's health was failing which resulted in her being hospitalized at the Selkirk General Hospital until her passing. We would like to especially thank the Selkirk Hospital staff, all the nurses and doctors for their kindness, compassionate care and going above and beyond making her hospital stay more enjoyable. Special thanks to the staff involved in the special anniversary. Your thoughtfulness and kindness was greatly appreciated. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Dobrowolski, Derek Samagalski, Tyler Samagalski and Shawn Swain. As per Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk. A private family interment will follow at a later date at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Joan's name.
