RINA ROMEO Surrounded by her loving family, Rina passed away at Concordia Place on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters, Mary (Brian Neil), Lynn (Bob Sly) and Lori (Dan Prokopchuk); grandchildren, Darian (Jordan), Derek (Rachelle), Kayla, Jordan and Adriana; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Owen, Thalia and Ethan; sister-in-law Anna (Rome, Italy); many nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Italy, as well as many dear friends. She was predeceased in 1997 by her beloved husband Tom and their respective parents and siblings. Rina was born in Secinaro, Italy in 1924 and moved to Rome as a young child. She was the eldest of five children and learned very early the responsibilities and joy of family and community. She met Tom, a handsome young finance officer from Amato, Italy and in 1945 Tom and Rina were married in Rome. They later immigrated to Canada with their young daughter and dreams of building a better life for their family. And so they did, making their home in Transcona and raising their daughters surrounded by a strong and vibrant family and community. Rina was a woman of uncommon strength and quiet dignity who valued family and friendship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and took joy and pride in the accomplishments of her family. Despite frail health, she lived in the house that she and Tom built until her 90th birthday. She was grateful for her long and rich, full life and accepted her hardships with grace. She will be missed but her strength and determination live on to guide and support her family. The family thanks the many visitors and caring staff at Concordia Place (4th Floor) who lifted her spirits and made her final years comfortable. In keeping with Rina's wishes, a funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 505 Brewster Street, on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior. Entombment will take place at the Chapel of Eternal Memories, Mausoleum Crypt, 1501 Waverley Street following the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rina may be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation or a charity of your choice. Riposa in pace Mamma-Nonna The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. I am so sorry for your loss. I used to be her home care worker when she was still living in her house on Lakeside Meadow. She was a fantastic sweet lady, we became friends during my time with her. I used to call her my little Italian lady. R.I.P. Rena - Posted by: Elke (Knew her through home care) on: Jul 18, 2016

It was a great gift and pleasure to know, learn and spend time growing up with my great Aunt. She never complained about the pain she lived with, Osteoarthritis. She was so kind, generous and the time spent with her, Uncle Tom & Nanni up at Matlock were some of the best times I was part to be a privilege of. Sincere condolences to all of her family. She was a strong & special lady. God Bless you all. Love, Kimmy - Posted by: Kimberley Loschiavo (Niece) on: Jul 18, 2016
