ANITA JULIE GIRARD (nee GAUTHIER) May 22, 1929 July 16, 2016 Surrounded by her family, Anita Girard passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Mom will be greatly missed by her daughter Antonine Driedger and her husband Keith Driedger; son Raymond Girard and husband Laird Kay; grandson David Driedger and his partner Jessica Jarmasz as well as granddaughter Karine Verot and her husband Kyle Verot. Anita is survived by her sister Irene Lambert and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who were very dear to her. Anita was predeceased by her husband Alphonse Girard in 2004. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Eva (Ross), Germaine (Girard) and Jeanne (Ross) and her brothers, Roland, Fred and Bernard. Sincere thanks to family and devoted friends for their gifts, cards and visits during Mom's illness. She was a very social person and these meant a great deal to her. The family is grateful for the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital on Units 5B, 5E, 8A Palliative Care and the Spiritual Care team. Thank you to CancerCare Manitoba and WRHA Palliative Care Program. A special thanks to Dr. Chris Ogaranko and his assistant Inga from St. Boniface Clinic for their compassionate care. Anita was born in Ross, Manitoba on May 22, 1929 and moved to Winnipeg in her late teens. She enjoyed her work at Modern Dairies, Fisher and Burpee and at St. Boniface Hospital. Anita and her husband Alphonse Girard were married in 1958 and raised their family in Norwood where Anita also worked as caretaker for Globe Agencies a job she truly enjoyed. Mom loved to travel and she loved country music, so her trip to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville was a true highlight. She was never one to shy away from a game of cards and played until the last week of her life. She was incredibly proud of having recently mastered the online world and kept in touch with her loved ones by text and email from her "little lap computer." In keeping with Anita's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial mass celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Boniface Hospital Chapel located in the C Wing on the second floor, with Father Gary Killen presiding. A reception will follow at the Norwood Hotel from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Anita may be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation (Medicine Program), an institution that was a huge presence throughout Anita's entire life. • Although I only met her a few times, I was very fond of Mrs. Girard. Her beautiful smile and witty quips made her instantly irresistible. The first time I met her was in the early 90s in Montréal when she came to see her son's first participation in a design show. She was filled with pride. I am so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how difficult a time this must be, and I wish I were there by your side. Je vous embrasse très fort, Raymond et Antonine, et j'offre mes très sincères condoléances à toute la famille. - Posted by: Brian LeCompte (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2016
