ELIZABETH STEG Elizabeth "Lisa" Steg, aged 103 of Emerson, Manitoba passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Emerson Personal Care Home. She is survived by her son Fred Krauter (Dorothy Pow); grandchildren, Eric Krauter, Maryann Pow, Lloyd Steg, Dennis Casper, Judy Dufault, and Norma Hartwig; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. She was predeceased by her first husband Friedrich Krauter (1941); her second husband Ludwig "Louis" Steg (1972); her stepchildren, Ted (Edna) Steg, Elsie (Frank) Casper, Alma (Ted) Hartwig; and by one grandson Howard Casper. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Emerson, Manitoba with burial at the Emerson Cemetery. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Donations in memory of Elizabeth Steg may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Aunt Lisl, as we called her, was a strong, out-going person. Although she seldom talked about them her earlier experiences were surely traumatic: a husband drafted and never to be seen again; fleeing various armies during World War !! with her small child and her sister and her family; crossing into West Germany; coming to Canada as a Displaced Person and working in the sugar beet fields to repay her passage. Nevertheless she maintained a positive outlook, always grateful for all her blessings. Her favorite card game was Skip-Bo which she invariably won even though her vision was severely impaired.
