Date of Passing: Aug 02, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE HELOISE WLADYKA (DEVEAUX) July 1, 1917 - August 2, 2016 It is with deep sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Seven Oaks Hospital, with her family at her side. Predeceased by her husband of 33 years, William (Bill) B. Wladyka in 1978, she is survived by her children, Mary, William (Rosemary), Walter (Jocelyne), Wilfred, Nancy and Jack, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anne was born in Sydney and grew up in Iona, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She worked as a civilian office assistant for the Royal Canadian Air Force in Halifax during the war, meeting and marrying Bill, who was in the Royal Canadian Navy, in 1945. After being stationed in Edmonton, they moved back to Winnipeg when Bill left the navy. They set up their first home together on Brandon Avenue in Fort Rouge and, in 1954, moved to 15 acres in North Kildonan. There they raised their six children. Anne was a homemaker, a talented seamstress, and a wonderful cook; a "great mom", always there for her children and supportive of her friends. The family was active for many years at St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Anne was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, being its first President and actively supporting all their endeavours - teas, bazaars, dinners and bingo. Anne has lived at the SSMI Senior's Tower on Aberdeen Avenue since it opened in 1992, continuing to support her fellow tenants and the Holy Family Home Ladies Auxiliary's events with her sewing skills. She moved to Holy Family Home on March 1, 2016. We thank the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate and her caregivers at Holy Family Home, as well as the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the care of our mother. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie Street, and the Funeral Liturgy will be on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., also at St. Anne's, with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel celebrating. Luncheon to follow services at St. Anne's. In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Anne Wladyka can be made to Lubov SSMI Foundation for Holy Family Home or to St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
