EDMUND ALEXANDER MCDONALD January 24, 1932 - August 20, 2016 It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our husband, father and grandfather, Ed, who left us suddenly at the age of 84. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years Eve; daughter Karen (Dave); granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Megan; brothers-in-law Hector (Gina), and Rene; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his son Doug; his parents; and all of his seven siblings. Eddie grew up in Winnipeg where he began his career working initially for Great West Life and then Air Canada. In 1966 he accepted a position with AECL, and Pinawa became their home for over 49 years. Ed was an avid sports lover and played fastball, basketball and, later in life, enjoyed his daily round of golf and morning coffee with the guys. Throughout his life he made many friends and will always be remembered for his big smile, great sense of humor and kind heart. Ed would lend a hand to anyone and expect nothing in return. Ed's greatest moments were those spent with his family. He and Eve had an unbreakable love and bond and it was evident to all how much they loved each other. Being a devoted father and grandfather was one of the most important things to Eddie and there was never a parent more proud of his children than he was of his son, daughter and granddaughters. His love and support were unconditional and he would do anything for his wife, children and grandchildren. Ed also really loved Karen's family dog Tucker, and would smile from ear to ear every time Tucker visited. Eve and Karen would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vista Park Lodge and Pinawa Hospital for the care they provided to Eddie over the last few years. In keeping with Eddie's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Friends and family are welcome to share stories and sign the book of condolences at ejcoutu.com Gone but never forgotten, you are in our hearts forever and always. We love you! E.J. COUTU & CO. • My deepest condolences to Eve during this time. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know both yourself and Ed at the hospital over 2 years ago. I enjoyed talking with you both during meal times, and know that the patient lounge never felt the same since you two moved. I will always remember seeing him once holding a giant bowl of soup as you wheeled him down the hall, and seeing his smile when you would walk into the lounge. Thoughts to yourself and family. - Posted by: Emilie Shewchuk () on: Aug 30, 2016

Even though I haven't been back to Winnipeg in decades, I remember his sense of humor, his permanent smile and laugh and his devotion to his family. We were confirmed together, if I remember right.
