ALFRED LANDRY February 2, 1920 - September 6, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, at the age of 96 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Betty (Waters); children, Gisele, Janice (Louis), Alfred Jr., Douglas (Belinda), 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Denis and Paul; sister Rita and his many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by parents, Frank and Esmeria Landry (Labelle); daughter Laura Lynn; foster son Albert Richard; daughter-in-law Wanda (Giesbrecht); brothers, Louis (Leonne), Edward (Esther), Maurice (Lily); sister Flore (Romeo Marion); brother-in-law George Desaulniers. Alfred was born and raised in Morris, MB. At the age of 21, he joined the Royal Canadian Army. He was a fully trained infantry soldier serving with the Hull regiment from Hull, Quebec. He returned home after four and one half years of service in 1946. Alfred purchased a farm in Ste. Elizabeth, MB, where he farmed for several years. In 1952 he moved to Aubigny, MB and purchased river lot 438, where he resided until 2005. He then returned to Morris, MB until his final days. On October 22, 1953, he married the love of his life, Betty, from Dominion City, MB. They spent the next 62 years building a life together, where he ran a mixed farming operation with cattle, hogs and poultry. Alfred was a wonderful storyteller, captivating listeners with numerous tales of his colourful adventures. He worked hard all his life, but always had time to spend with his family. Alfred belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 111 for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship. In his retirement years, he loved camping and travelling. His greatest trip was to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Fred was an avid reader and enjoyed the many books he received as gifts from his family. His greatest treasures in life were his beautiful loving wife (lover), his children and grandchildren. We know that he is waiting for us all just beyond the moon. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, viewing 1:00 p.m., Eulogy 1:30 p.m., Mass 2:00 p.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 253 Main St. South, Morris, MB.
