LESLIE CHRISTINE TRAFTON March 11, 1966 - September 05, 2016 September 5, 2016 was a bright, sunny fall afternoon when Leslie Christine Trafton passed away peacefully, at the age of 50, surrounded by her husband, family and close friends. Leslie was born on March 11, 1966 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Fort Richmond, where, as a child, she would meet her lifelong friends, and in high school, her lifelong love, Curtis. Since her first skate at the age of three, Leslie lived an active life and excelled at everything she did-from dance to ringette and hockey, basketball and volleyball, soccer, scuba diving, and in recent years, yoga, where she found comfort, solace and peace. She had a fierce competitive spirit but always enjoyed the companionship of friends much more than the sport itself. She was a shining bright light with a beautiful smile, contagious laugh, natural curiosity and generous spirit who always inspired others to try to be just a little bit like her. Leslie received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg and a Diploma in Business Administration from Red River College and worked at Anthony Allen, then at Service Canada as an Insurance Investigator. Leslie worked hard and excelled at her career. Yet she always maintained that friends and family were most important to her, nurturing those relationships throughout her life. She was the one always checking in to make sure you and your loved ones were okay. Leslie's greatest joys were taking numerous trips with her husband Curtis; sharing stories and laughter with her close friends and hockey family; watching her nephews Jeremy and Josh play sports; swimming and reading at the cottage; walking her much loved rescue dogs Mattie and Henry. Everyone she met fell in love with her enthusiasm and laughter. Despite her illness, she always found ways to be positive, gracious and strong, treating every day of wellness as a precious gift. Leslie will be remembered and dearly missed by her beloved husband Curtis, her father George, her sister Nancy, her brother John and by her wide network of relatives and loving friends. She was predeceased by her mother Diane and her father-in-law Claude. Leslie's family and friends profoundly thank the staff at 7A at St. Boniface Hospital, including Tracy Heppner, Dr. Yaffe, Dr. Daeninck and Dr. Ilnyckyj for their kindness, care and support. A celebration of Leslie's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, September 26 in the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Near the end of her battle with cancer, fought with determination and grace, Leslie said, "I have no regrets. I've lived a full life." In Leslie's memory please consider donating to CancerCare Manitoba, any charity of choice or in Leslie's words, "give hugs to your family." I am so sorry to hear of Leslie's passing more years later. I never hung out with her in school, but she was a passive, quiet, humble person, & so gorgeous. She excelled in sports, from volleyball to basketball, & was a studious student. My heartfelt condolences to her entire family & friends. Love & God bless you beautiful Leslie. - Posted by: LAURIE ANDERSON (FORMER SCHOOL MATE.) on: Jul 22, 2021

I met Leslie traveling in Thailand. We first crossed paths in Chiang May, and then later in the South where I got extremely ill with a deadly form of Malaria. Leslie helped me get to a hospital in Krabi, and then continued to visit me over the course of a week while I recovered. Krabi at that time was not a great place to hang out, but Leslie stayed to help bring me food, and keep my spirits up. I'd written a few times, but we lost touch over the years. I'd occasionally look for her on Facebook or Google her name, but never found her. I cleaned out my old desk and found her address, and when I typed that in Google, I found out she had passed away. When I think of Leslie, I see an angelic smiling face. She was incredibly generous and kind. Even though I didn't know her well, I loved Leslie. She touched my heart deeply, and I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to tell her how much she meant to me. - Posted by: Theo Pearson (Friend) on: May 22, 2019

My sincerest condolences. I had the pleasure of going to school with Leslie from Kindergarten to Grade 3 at Dalhousie Elementary School. Her cute pigtails, beautiful smile and infectious laugh could brighten anyone's day. I had the opportunity to meet up with Leslie again at Red River College taking Business Administration. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched, you may not be with us on earth any longer, but your spirit lives on in all of us.....RIP Leslie. - Posted by: Rob Sommerville (Childhood friend ) on: Sep 26, 2016

Growing up with Bubbles on Rutgers Bay was always filled with fun and excitement. Leslie's giggle put a smile on everyone's face. We would run into both she and Kurt at the dog park and most recently at Darren's 50th. Was so great to celebrate with old friends. You will be missed - but your laughter will never die Shelley and Criag McFeetors - Posted by: Shelley and Craig McFeetors (Friends) on: Sep 17, 2016

My sincere condolences. Leslie, as I remember her, was a ray of sunshine every single time I spoke or hung out with her. I remember going over to Greg's house with Leslie on many occasions where Mrs. Swalwell would feed us healthy treats and playspace. The only time I would end up on the "other side" of the bay was to hang out with Greg and Leslie. Such a terrible loss to such a wonderful soul. Peace and strength be with you all. - Posted by: Scott Grant (Childhood friend) on: Sep 17, 2016
