BETTY JEAN JONES (nee STORIE) February 28, 1950 - September 16, 2016 After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Betty passed away at Selkirk General Hospital with husband Wayne and friends at her side. Betty was born at Carberry, Manitoba on February 28, 1950. She lived on the farm at Austin until moving to Winnipeg after she graduated from school. She joined Manitoba Telephone System, while there, she met Wayne Jones and they married on June 11, 1977. They moved to Traverse Bay in 1988 and Betty retired from MTS in 1999. She later worked for Statistics Canada, mostly in the north. She enjoyed being up north a lot. She was predeceased by her brother Donald in 1947, her mother Alice in 1959 and her father Roy in 2010. She is survived by her loving husband Wayne, her brother Ross Storie (Carmen), niece Halley, her sister Terry Sperle (Dwayne), niece Brianna Sawyer, nephews Everett and Ethan, and her stepmother Gwen Storie. Betty made many close friends at work and at the Beaches area where she lived and played. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of CancerCare Health Sciences Centre and the Selkirk Hospital Chemotherapy group and Emergency. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at the Victoria Beach Community Centre on Tuesday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Unfortunately we are travelling on the East coast and won't be able to attend the service but while we were driving "I'm Henry the Eighth", came on and we both remarked about sitting around the campfire at Elk Island after a snowmobile trip with Betty and belting out the tune. This is only one of many great memories we have of Betty. She would remember our kids every Xmas and her ornaments were always special. She was a good person and though we knew she was having a tough time in recent months she would never let that enter the conversation when we were together. She will be missed. - Posted by: Ron and Dorotea Cassels (Friend) on: Sep 22, 2016

  • I had the pleasure of getting to know Betty over the last ten years. She was always warm, smiling, and caring. She always wanted to know how I was doing, or my girls, and her laugh was contagious. Even as her battles got tougher over the years, her spirit and sense of humor remained unchanged. She will be missed. - Posted by: Drew Dear () on: Sep 21, 2016
