JOAN DIANE REID (née MARSDEN) September 7, 1930 - September 19, 2016 Peacefully on September 19, 2016, with her family by her side, Joan passed away at the age of 86 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters and their families. Daughter, Pam (Doug Patenaude), grandsons, Ken Dixon (Jodi), Guy (Patricia), Dan (Vanessa), and two great-grandsons, Dimitri and Zach. Daughter: Cindy (Brian Moodie), grandson Alex, and granddaughters Kelly (Ryan) and Shannon. Also left to cherish her memory are childhood friends Andrea Singbeil, Fran Gold and special friends Liz Greenhalgh and Georgie Dodd. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander, as well as her father Harry Marsden and her mother Jean Marsden. Born in Fort Rouge, Mom went to Lord Roberts and graduated from Kelvin High School in 1947. She began work at the Power Commission and throughout her life enjoyed various part-time and full-time positions at Sears, The House of York and the Winnipeg Canoe Club. It was at the Canoe Club and Winnipeg Badminton Club that she met "confirmed bachelor" Alec and they were wed shortly there-after in 1952. They enjoyed both the social and athletic aspects of the clubs and made countless life-long friendships. By 1957 two daughters had completed the family. There was never a Christmas Eve that didn't include a houseful of family and "strays," filled with endless laughter. Her favourite times were dinners with her beloved grandsons where they would solve the world's problems and plot their next adventures. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Victoria Hospital for helping to make Mom's last few weeks as comfortable as possible. She was sharp and articulate to her final day. In keeping with our Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dream Factory or KidSport Winnipeg. Please also consider the priceless gift of your time to a friend or relative in need of company. Goodbye my family my life has passed, I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take, always continue to love one another, for my sake. For those you love don't go away, they walk beside you every day. We will miss you, Mom, Gramma, and Joan.
