STEPHANIE ROMA DIAKIW 1963 - 2016 On September 24, 2016, with her family by her side, Stephanie passed away at the age of 53 after a courageous battle with cancer. Stephanie leaves to mourn and cherish her memory mother Alexandra, sister Marijka (Wolodymyr), niece Ariadna and nephew Taras, as well as numerous relatives in Canada and Ukraine. Stephanie was predeceased by her father Pawlo in 1993. Stephanie was a proud north ender of Ukrainian heritage. After completing her high school education, she went on to complete a degree in Human Ecology at the University of Manitoba. She began her career at Nygaard, moving on to Westcott and then MWG. Choosing to make a career shift, Stephanie completed a diploma course in Electrical Drafting. This led her to work at SMS Engineering, The State Group, MCW/AGE and finally at Manitoba Hydro. She had a strong work ethic and was meticulous when working on a project that was assigned to her. Stephanie was gifted with a creative talent and shared these gifts with her loved ones. She pursued voice training, watercolour painting and exceptional writing of pysanky. She knitted. She did arts and crafts with her niece and nephew. Stephanie loved travelling and visited places such as England, France, Australia, Japan, Hawaii, Mexico and the USA. Stephanie gave of her time and participated in the Dragon Boat Races, and the Firefighters Marathon. She volunteered at Folklorama Kyiv Pavilion, the parish council at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and Ladies Auxiliary. Stephanie was a member of the Ukrainian Youth Association (U.Y.A.), Alpha Omega Women's Alumni and the Red Hats Cinnamon Hearts. Stephanie's strong faith gave her the strength to brave her illness with grace and dignity. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Zachary Shwaluk at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue at Arlington Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be sent to the Ukrainian Youth Association (U.Y.A.), 777 Pritchard Ave., Winnipeg, MB or CancerCare Manitoba. Vichnaya Pamyat! I knew Stepha since I was little at Sadok and later at CYM, Ukrainian school, Mandolin orchestra and from Sts Vladimir & Olga Cathedral. Always with a smile and kind words to all who approached her.
