Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I came to know Doug much later than so many of his Interlake friends. We were Liberal Party activists and shared executive roles and organizational tasks on various election campaigns. We were also fellow members and past presidents of the Stonewall and District Lions Club. In these capacities I grew to know, appreciate and share many of his values - giving back to the community, pedagogy as a calling, helping those less fortunate and a joie de vivre which was wryly droll and quietly inspirational. I can only imagine his performance as an educator and administrator though I was not privileged to know him in these capacities. I did know his presence as a community leader however. His memorial gathering was a truly beautiful event and I was pleased to have had that opportunity to share some memories and my good wishes with Carol, his family and other friends. The good ones will be missed the most and remembered the longest. - Posted by: Jim Millar (Friend and admirer) on: Nov 09, 2016

  • Sorry to hear about the recent passing of Doug. I first met Doug when I came to Gimli as a Principal in 1977. A great personal and professional friendship developed. He will be missed for his great wit and professional stature. To his family my greatest condolences. Rest in peace friend. - Posted by: Morris Kustiak (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2016

  • Carol and all of your families. Thinking of you and sending our heartfelt condolences. We always enjoyed time spent with Doug...golfing, Kinsmen, curling, dancing, and lots of laughter. We know he enjoyed his time on planet earth and he was always so much fun to visit with and spend time with. Big Hugs to everyone!
