Born: Apr 08, 1919
Date of Passing: Sep 30, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHANNA RACHEL LITINSKY April 8, 1919 - September 30, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness that we share the passing of our beautiful, precious Mother and Baba, Hanna Rachel Litinsky (nee Intrater). Born in Sanok, Poland, April 8, 1919 to parents Rebecca and Israel. Rachel came to Canada in 1937 to start a new life. She was an adventurous young lady, working in a sewing factory at the Peck Building, being an usherette at the New Odeon Theatre, having her own restaurant in the McIntyre Building, sold real estate, but her true career love was in the high-end fashion industry, at Donaldson's. While working at the Peck Building, she would meet her future husband William, who worked across the street at Del's Electric. Rachel and Bill married in May, 1945 and were together in their home on Smithfield, where they raised their two sons Monty and Richard. Rachel is survived by her two sons Monty (Carroll) and Richard (Lorraine), her beloved grandchildren: Matthew (Karen), Shoni (Sean), Alexander and Catherine, and Rachel's great-grandchildren, Nola, Orion and Isabelle, who she loved to hold at family gatherings. Rachel loved cooking and entertaining her family. Her life was her family and family was her life. Sunday dinners were always around her beautiful dining room table. There was food for 50 people when most dinners we were a table of 10. Mom, Baba Rachel would have such joy sending us home with trays of food for the week ahead. As her memory diminished and then increasingly began to deteriorate, she loved her Sunday Family outings. Mostly they were putting on her "magic apron" and cooking either perogies, moon cookies or her famous apple cake. Mom, Baba Rachel was always a lady of class. She was always dressed head to toe as if she was going to another family celebration. She loved and adored her family. Rachel was predeceased by her husband William in 1990; her sisters, Hanna and Esther, and brothers, Benjamin, Jack and Morris. Warm thank you to all staff for your care and compassion during this challenging time, at the Simkin Centre. You have all been there for us during Rachel's final journey. You have helped us through these past few 'extremely difficult' months. We give heartfelt thanks to: Donna, Lucy, Nada, Stacey, Gemma, Almaze, Gezlyn and Carla, whose spiritual care guided us through the final days and so many compassionate others we knew by their smile and tender care. Please be kind always, as Rachel taught us all, that kindness and giving to your family was "Love". Graveside Service was held Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Bnay Abraham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Litinsky, Alexander Litinsky, Murray, Howard and Brett Intrater and Sheldon Stoller. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba. Rest in peace Mom-Baba, love you forever

Remember visiting you with Monty. You thought I was his third wife. We had a good visit. I also remember all the amazing food that you sent home to us. You were always feeding the dogs next door to you matzah balls. You knew how to make us all laugh. Thank you for the memories and rest Rachel. - Posted by: Lori (Step granddaughter ) on: May 18, 2021

I send my heartfelt condolences to lovely Hanna Rachel's family. She was always so kind and welcoming to me when Rick and I would visit, and would always send over a big dish of kasha and noodles for me when she learned that it was my favourite. Rest in peace, Rachel. - Posted by: Dave Parasz (Friend of Litinsky family) on: Oct 10, 2016
