DOUGLAS BRIAN REYNOLDS We said a sad farewell to a one of a kind husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend when Doug passed away a year after his diagnosis with metastatic prostate cancer. With the love and support of his devoted wife Carol, all of their six children and the Palliative Care team he was able to die at home, which was important to him. Doug's early years were spent in Hartney, MB where he enjoyed a typical small town lifestyle with his parents Darcy and Doris Reynolds (deceased) and two brothers George (deceased) and Jack (Jackie). He obtained his Grade 12 there and later, as a Teacher's College graduate, began his career as an educator in Rathwell, MB with a mixed grade class of 41 students. Over the next several years he obtained his B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba, his Masters from Brandon University and a post graduate degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. His career took him to Carman, Melita, Gimli, Winnipeg and finally Stonewall. During this time, he enjoyed his experiences as a teacher, principal, special education coordinator, special education consultant, assistant superintendent and superintendent in the Manitoba school system. In 1966 Doug married Shirley Shann, and although the marriage ended in divorce, together they had a daughter followed by two sons. Doug was so proud of his children and he found peace in seeing them all successful and happy in their lives before his death. Surviving him are Lori (Matt Duncan), Darcy (Jody Reynolds), and Bryon (Tanya Reynolds) and his six grandchildren who brought much love and laughter into his life. In 1990, when Doug married Carol he immediately gained three more adult children who came to love him like a second father. Surviving him are Todd (Heather Allan), Lori (Barry Buzhardt) and Jackie (Brad Sutherland) and six more grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Always an avid sports fan, Doug played hockey and ball in his younger years and continued curling until he began wintering in Arizona. But most of all he loved to golf. Although never able to get that handicap down, he did have three "holes in one." Doug was well read with a love of politics, history and geography making him a formidable opponent in Trivial Pursuit. He was involved in his community wherever he lived serving as president of Melita Kinsmen and of Stonewall Lions Club. Doug always found the good in everyone, a trait that endeared him to so many. Our family invites all who would like to remember him and celebrate a life well lived to join us for a casual come and go on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 603 Wellington Crescent and Academy Road (Unitarian Church) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a brief program at 2:00 p.m. Men please wear your favourite golf shirt.
