FREDERICK THEODORE KUZYK
Born: May 09, 1922
Date of Passing: Oct 05, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK THEODORE KUZYK May 9, 1922 - October 5, 2016 Peacefully on October 5, 2016, our beloved father and grandfather passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 94. Predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Kay, and siblings Mack, John, Bill, Steve, Walter, Mary, and Catherine, he leaves to mourn his six children and nine grandchildren: Teresa (Gordie) and Taisa; Mimi and Kaliopi; Monica and Sophia (Graham), Veronica (Andrew); Myron (Tracey and Zach, Steph); Christine (Harry) and Tania, Odessa; Kathryn (Ted) and Miko; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dad was born on May 9, 1922 in Glenella, Manitoba to Ukrainian pioneers Sam and Anna (Sul) Kuzyk. In 1928, the family moved to Poplar Point where he received his early education. After completing high school in Brandon, Dad was accepted into the University of Manitoba. He was very proud and grateful to be the only one of his family to have the opportunity to attend university. Dad graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1946. He was instrumental in bringing electricity into over a thousand homes in rural Manitoba. But true to his entrepreneurial nature, he established Amalgamated Construction in 1949, a road building company he ran until retirement in 1997. His company built over 500 miles of new roads throughout Manitoba as well as part of the Floodway. Our father was an active supporter of and contributor to his community. He was a long time member of the Association of Professional Engineers, the Ukrainian Professional Businessmen's Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Manitoba Road Builders' Association, and the Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers (SOUP). Dad embodied the faith, determination, and work ethic of his generation. His passions were accordion playing, family history, photography, blueberries, and chocolate. Dad's intellectual curiosity to understand a changing world spanned nine decades and never ceased to amaze. His beautiful wife Kay was the centre of his life, and he was the ultimate provider for his six children. Our "larger than life" father will be truly missed. Prayers will be held at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., on Thursday October 13 at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, CSsR. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, CSsR, on Friday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, 68003 Cooks Creek Rd., Cooks Creek, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main St., Winnipeg MB, R2W 1T9. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com

I was very sorry to hear of Fred's passing. "Uncle Fred" really was a larger than life character. (He wasn't really my uncle, but was to my cousins Mike and Pat). Although I haven't seen him much in recent years whenever I did he never failed to mention the one stock I had convinced him to buy that did very poorly when I was a young stockbroker many years ago. It was a 'barb' delivered to me with a twinkle in his eye and broad grin on his face. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: David Buchholz () on: Nov 02, 2016

Please accept condolences from me ,Ivanka and Rob, Bohdan and Abigail. I knew your father from my early childhood, helped with babysitting the older siblings, and remember him as a student living with us in Brandon in his early years. He was the son of pioneer parents, had much to overcome being left young without a father to raise him. He has to be admired for all he accomplished in his life, his generosity first and foremost to his immediate family and his caring and generosity to the Ukrainian Catholic community as well as to his Canadian community. We all have to live up to his standards. We will remember him in prayers and reflect on what impact he had on the lives of all of us.
