ANTONIO AUDINO Peacefully, on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital, with family at his bedside, Antonio Audino passed away at the age of 88 years. Antonio is survived by his loving children: Felicia (Franco), Vince (Andrea), Mario (Mavis), and Frank (Lelia); grandchildren: Michael (Erin), Ryan (Jordyn), Mathew, Marissa, Marco, Nadia, Antonio, Cristina, Loredana, Antonia, Michael (Shawna), and Sebastiano; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Jayden, Quinton, Francesco, and Matteo; sister Rosina Gigliotti, brother Mario (Josie), brother-in-law Giuseppe Sacco, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and many relatives and friends in Canada, Italy and United States. Antonio was predeceased by his wife Fiorenza Gigliotti, parents Vincenzo Audino and Felicia Barberio, sisters Albina Aiello and Domenica Sacco, brothers-in-law Vitaliano Gigliotti and Mario Aiello, and many in-laws from the Gigliotti family. Antonio was born in San Mango d'Aquino, Catanzaro, Italy on October 2, 1928. At his young age, there were many demands on him to help the family; consequently, attending school became a secondary objective. However, he managed to graduate from the Vocational Middle School in Nocera Tirinese and learned a number of trades on the job, including shoemaker, carpenter and construction worker. When he realized that opportunities for a steady job in San Mango were not existing, he migrated to Northern Italy where he worked with other Sammanghesi mostly in the construction field, building roads and housing projects in the cities of Bolzano and Trento. On December 31, 1959 he immigrated to Winnipeg where he joined his sister Albina who had immigrated three years earlier. Here, he tried his hand at a variety of jobs, but he spent most of his time (15 years) as second cook with Cara Operations at the Winnipeg Airport and another 15 years or so at the Hotel Fort Garry where he worked his way up to Sous Chef and proudly served lunch in the Oval Room. On April 15, 1961 Antonio married Fiorenza Gigliotti who was also born in San Mango d'Aquino. Together, they raised four beautiful children (Felicia, Vince, Mario, Frank) who could have not wished for a better set of parents. Antonio was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. While his top priority has always been his family, he has also provided consistent and valuable contributions (both in kind and financial) to a number of community institutions, such as Holy Rosary Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Dante Alighieri Society and the San Mango d'Aquino Society of which he was one the founders and presidents. Antonio was a fervent Catholic and an exemplary citizen; he always lived according to the word of God. Sustained by his faith and ignited by his innate desire to help others, he has demonstrated, by his actions and words, that he was, indeed, one of a kind; a unique human being of proverbial humility and generosity. The family extends sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses of 5E at St. Boniface Hospital for their professional and compassionate care. Pallbearers will be: Michael, Ryan, Mathew, Antonio, Vincenzo (Audino), Tony Sacco, Enzo and Osvaldo Gigliotti. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m., Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Entombment in Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street. A reception will follow at the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Antonio's memory can be made to a charity of choice.
