BONNIE VIOLA CARLSON Bonnie Viola Carlson, aged 77, has passed away on October 12, 2016, 11:12 p.m. at Seven Oaks Hospital. Mom had a stroke on June 17, 2016 and had developed pneumonia on October 9. Complications from her stroke would not allow her to fight the pneumonia. She died peacefully with her daughter Lori and grandson Mason by her side. Mom was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on December 3, 1938, the daughter of Ernest Gudjohn Olson and Stella Alice Winnifred Sabiston. Mom was a very smart lady who worked hard as a single mom ensuring I always had a good roof over my head. Even through financial struggles, she always ensured we had entertainment, from simply driving around looking at scenery, to taking me and a few friends or cousins to Tinker Town, Selkirk Park, and Winnipeg Beach to swim the entire day with a lunch packed with bologna sandwiches, Skinners water slides, demolition derbys, the list goes on. She especially loved the car races at Victory Lane Speedway when her son-in-law Dan raced for a few years. She never missed a race, she helped to count laps, and never missed the gathering in the pits afterwards. Mom helped raise her grandsons as she was their babysitter before they went to school. She was a huge part of the reason they have turned out to be such amazing young men today. She was always there for us if we needed anything at all, we knew we could count on Mom/Gran. She lived the last eight years at Rosh Pina Housing on Matheson Avenue where she served on the Board of Directors and made many friends, who became my friends, providing support throughout her illness and taking the time to visit her in the hospital. I know it wasn't easy for you ladies, but you made it there and I appreciate it more than words can say. Bonnie, one of seven children is survived by one sister, and three brothers. She is also survived by her daughter, Lori Christensen (Dan) and grandsons Mason (Gemma) and Lane Christensen. Mom always expressed that she did not want a funeral, however a small gathering of close friends and family will take place at a later date to celebrate her life. We wish to thank the medical staff and healthcare aides at Seven Oaks Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. www.seasonsfunerals.ca
